I honestly dont hate the idea. Fleury has three cups and can be a solid veteran presence too

The Hawks don't want Mrazek. He wasn't worth his contract even on Day 1 that he signed it. I'm all for sending MAF to TOR and I also understand TOR has cap requirements, but the Hawks aren't a dumping ground for Dubas' mistakes.

I think the Blackhawks would prefer moving Fleury for futures than a paper-bodied Mrazek.

Agree, theres very little enticement for CHI to take mrazek (hey, wasn;t he the leafs 1B goalie?) and eat 3.5mil in retention and then eat 1.5mil of strome for a 2nd and a 4th rounder 3 yrs away!

Tie the deals together at least and offer market value for retention (for 5mil in retention thats probably a 1st at least by itself):

Fleury (yes a UFA, but he'd be a huge upgrade and give TOR cap space in 22-23)
Strome (Struggled to start, but still young and good scorer)

for

Mrazek
TOR 2022 1st
TOR 2022 2nd
TOR 2023 2nd
prospect Amirov

5mil retained

OTT declines,

WAY overloaded on Left shot LW already, Brady, Stuztle, Formenton, and the prospect list isn't any better.

Also If Chicago is going to trade Fleury and Retain Money then he is going to Edmonton.

I would be shocked if ARI is not on his no trade list, which he has one. He is here let's deal with it and hope he doesn't get injured. lmfao to anyone who suggests using picks or prospects to trade a guy they just signed in the summer. He is not getting moved

That also took 2 x 2nd and a 3rd, and was after Ladd's signing bonus was paid out...only owed 5 mil over 2 seasons, and keeps them at the floor with his $4 mil cap hit.

I suppose ill say this. What is Chicago's motivation to do the trade? MAF has struggled while playing behind a hawks team that has left him out to dry at almost every opportunity BUT... I have no reason to believe that Mrazek will fair any better, Petr has an extra year (Debateable if he's worth his contract, to begin with), and has serious injury issues. You have to send a significant asset if you want Chicago to both retain 3.5 million dollars AND take on Petr's contract.

I’ll say this if that man can stay heathy than he is fine & he’s been a pretty decent goalie in the two games he’s played but its just a matter of if he can play consistently in that Tandem

Agreed, WHEN healthy he is a very good goalie. Unfortunately, Mrazek has dealt with mostly lower-body injuries throughout his pro career.
- April 2019, Mrazek had to leave Game 2 of the second-round series against the New York Islanders due to suffering a lower-body injury. He returned to team practice later that week.
- February 2020, Mrazek suffered a neck injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He ended up having a concussion and missed significant time that season having only started and played in 12 games for the Hurricanes.
- January 2021, Mrazek and the Hurricanes decided it was in his best interest to have thumb surgery to start the rehab process immediately. He suffered a thumb injury against the Dallas Stars in which at first didn’t seem serious until medical results revealed he needed surgery as soon as possible if he expected to be ready to play again anytime soon.
- May 2021, Mrazek aggravated a lingering lower-body injury when he was still a member of the Hurricanes. He was out indefinitely due to the management staff trying to not push him back into the starting lineup prematurely to have him ready for their eventual NHL Playoffs run.
- October 2021, Mrazek suffered a groin injury against the Ottawa Senators. The Toronto Maple Leafs back-up re-joined the team Saturday October 30th and started the game vs the Detroit Red Wings.
Mrazek played just the one game before re-injuring his groin prior to the Leafs playing the Bruins Saturday November 6th, 2021.

He actually stayed relatively healthy to start his career with DET, they just choose to go with Jimmy Howard instead.

IMO he was a poor signing for 3 years. That was a mistake especially with Campbell needing a new contract. They have now handcuffed themselves completely of there own doing to an injury prone goalie. The issued for the longest time was not having a capable backup for Freddy and having him overworked. We are now having the same issues with Campbell. They should have gone with a 1 year deal with Riemer, Holtby, Halak, if anyone of them was available and wanted to play here. Big ifs but hopefully Petr comes back healthy and has no more issues.

You'd have to sweeten the pot a little more for that CHI trade. Maybe with no retention it'd be fine. But I don't think the Hawks have any interest in Mrazek. They are either going to give Lankinen the starting job or get a big fish. Mrazek isn't a big fish.

Exactly (and going back injuries was what kept him from big paydays and reliability. Philly went through 7 goaltenders one year and gave up a 3rd for him, but he again went down with an injury).

Its also the message to Jack Campbell, a 29 year old UFA, and without doubt: their number one. That as a UFA they can't really afford to pay him the market rate (or much more than their backup?) of 4.5mil or more? If I'm 29 year old Campbell, this is MY payday, maybe my last chance for a big contract. Theres plenty of teams out there with cap space who will bid for Campbell (Buffalo for one).

Toronto is essentially 4 forwards, 2 dmen and a bunch of stopgap, 1 year, risky, league minimum and some borderline NHLers. And watching how they worked with "bridge" or team friendly contracts like kapanen, johnsson, brown, (possibly dermott) they are no hiring the mercenaries, they are the mercenaries.
