ok, for starters,
An overpaid top 6 grinder, an average backup, and 2 young players does not get you a defenceman for a number 1 power play in the league, a dude who maybe never play again, 2 decent prospects, and inconsistent goalie, and a FIRST

Blais holds more value to us than in a trade for Chiarot. Our right side is already weak and this compounds the problem imo.

Barrie is a defensive liability. Bouchard will overtake him next year. Gallagher is the best player in the trade by miles heart soul the type of player you will win cups with. Allen is a number one goalie starter always has been and his numbers were lights out last year. Complete upgrade over both your goalies by a mile plus a cap savings which is worth its wait in gold to the oilers right now. Kulak is an nhl player right now solidified your defence plus a hometown boy.Paquette and archibauld arr a wash. The two prospects will never be much maybe third pairing and third liner. The first is the price to solidify team to win now

LMAO, Barrie doesn't do well in the east we saw that with the Leafs, and in a defense first system like the on Montreal TRIES to deploy he would get eaten alive by the coaches. Lavoie and the later 1st doesn't make up the value we lose between Allen and Gallagher either. Montreal passes

Chiarot trade is based on all the reports out today that rangers want to upgrade their left side and are willing to pay to do it.

They are apparently watching him closely as well are the islanders and the e blues. Just saying

I guess so, but from watching them play they need to find a way to upgrade the god awful right side that has not done much.

Allen had 1 good year in the past 5 and Habs fans think he's got all kinds of value - what a joke. He's objectively a downgrade on Koskinen.

Koskinen >> Allen
Barrie + Lavoie + 1st >>>>>>> Gallagher

You are clueless. Barrie was a top-10 offensive defenseman (all game states, not just PP) before he even came to Edmonton. In the 3 seasons before he went to Edmonton he was 6th best for 5v5 points and 7th for All Strength points.

http://naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20172018&thruseason=20192020&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=std&rate=n&team=ALL&pos=D&loc=B&toi=500&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL

EDM rejects this with prejudice.

Great offensive defence men but brutal other then on the power play. He is what he is. But he doesn’t bring all the intangibles he does t bro g anything else really his defensive in abilities allowt out way his offensive actually they always have even before he started playing in the nhl I’ve been watching him since then. Trust his reputation amongst nhl executives isn’t what you think it is.

Get a grip every real Edmonton fan been trying to trade Koska since he sided that deal can’t even beat out mike smith for starter job had never been a starter. Allen has been a starter his whole career. He was our starter last year and this year. And was every year in St. Louis except the last one

I wasn't saying the value wasn't there. I was saying that Barrie won't work out because of the system Montreal tries to employ. Barrie + Lavoie + an earlier 1st (10-16 range) = Gallagher + Allen but since Barrie wouldn't work in our system Lavioe and a 20-30 1st isn't going to cut it. Everything else on both sides is just fodder. BTW I actually like Barrie and if our coaches were better and employed a better system would love to have him.

Allen could well be the better choice for the playoffs. He's posted solid numbers there before. He might not have a ton of value, but he's definitely the safer bet.

Allen has brutal numbers this season, on par with the worst numbers Koskinen has put up in an Oiler uniform. Koskinen has had a couple of shaky performances this season, but his numbers a vastly better than Allen's and he should be fine once Smith returns from the IR, later this week. Edmonton can find a better option in net as the TDL approaches. Gallagher is injury prone, the term on his contract is a huge risk, and Edmonton could not justify paying him more than they pay Hyman and RNH.
Paquette might be a decent option for the Oiler 4th line, and Kulak doesn't fit their plans on the blue line. Samorukov and Broberg will both be pushing for roster spots next year.

Either you don't understand English or you severely lack basic comprehension, or both. I just showed you that Barrie is an elite offensive defenseman at 5v5, yet you persevere in saying inane things like "brutal other then on the power play."

Nobody is saying Barrie is elite defensively, if he was he'd be getting $9M per year instead of $4.5M. At that rate he provides MASSIVE value for his team and would be an attractive target for any team with the cap space. But Edmonton isn't moving him, especially in this poorly thought out offer.

Goodbye.

Playoffs. Regular season doesn't matter for the Oilers much. They are going to make the playoffs. That's when Allen's experience and ability will easily trump Koskinen.

Neither guy will play in the playoffs unless Smith gets injured though. So there's no value in that for Edmonton.

Even then, Allen over Koskinen is a better insurance policy, and the lower cap hit can be used to shore up somewhere else.
I'm not talking about this trade proposal, I'm only saying Allen is worth adding for a team that is serious.
