The Sabres will probably not finish the season with the worst record in the NHL. Even if they did the odds are far greater they do not win the lottery than winning it 2 years in a row.

Obscenely, and unrealistically lucky. Realistically we’ll be lucky to be picking in the top 5 this season, unless the wheels completely fall off like last year.

I'm guessing the Sabres finish somewhere between 5 and 8 - previous lotteries have zero effect on future lottery odds - Wright or Lambert would be nice if we get lucky enough for a lotto pick but there are pretty good players all the way to 11 then a little drop off.

Maybe Buffalo will find similar quality players:
Charlie McAvoy with the 14th pick
David Pastrnak with the 25th pick
Sebastian Aho with the 35th pick
Brayden Point with the 79th pick
Probably just a little less likely as the Sabres getting the first over all.
But the lesson obviously is to draft better (take Draisaitl over Reinhart and Sergachev over Nylander would be good examples).

An easy example is Detroit with Raymond a lot of people thought they got the shaft by picking 4th but right now Raymond looks better than the three players picked before him.
