I'm not really sure how that benefits the Ducks? Kesler's contract is insured. There's no reason for the Ducks to move it, plus, it comes off the books after this season anyway. The Hawks moved a bad contract that still had term on it (Seabrook), plus took back a cap dump (Johnson), and all they got for it was a late 2nd in 2023.

Plus, zero chance the Ducks move a 1st over the next 2 years. Yes, it's been a hot start, but rebuilds have a tendency to take a step backwards at some point...the fact that there's a solid chance that's a lotto pick means it's 100% off limits.

Wouldn't object too much with a Toews trade if the price is cheap, but I just can't see this trade happening with the Wings, we're not at that stage of contention yet. As for the trade offer here, I have a couple objections. First thing, Staal and DDK aren't moving, at least I don't think. They both have NMC/NTC for a reason, and I'd expect they give a big fat no if Chicago is the destination. Secondly, if you do end up taking both of them, we need another Dman coming back. Probably somebody cheap like Gustafsson or C. Jones to keep the cap balance sacred. Either way, not a very likely trade IMO.

Toews contract isn't an albatross. He is still a great center and playmaker. Also, his contract is up after next season, which would be perfect timing to free up cap space for the redwings. It would be a lot different if he had more term left on that contract. Regardless that trade would never happen. But your comment is not accurate.
