Description
Leafs organization apparently looking to move a D, perhaps a fit for the sens' timeline?

He'll be out of your way by the time your other D have started to come into their own and has experience in the top 4. He's defensively minded, responsible, and uncorks a shot every so often. He's had a rough start to the season, but has played in a shutdown role before. Only reason he's out is because the other players are not making any mistakes.

I haven't been keeping up with the sens, has Mete been that bad? I've only seen some of the memes. Ottawa's my second team so I only see them when the Leafs are in town.

Pretty fair deal, I just dont get why the Leafs brass would create a weakness by moving a dman, its not like theyll be able to get better with the cap space.

We have Rubins, Menell and Biega that would be cheap 7th D. We need to clear space to bring Mik back.

I just dont think any of those guys are any good (in Rubins case: yet). Like it or not, Holl has been 2RD for 2 years, Dermott has seen his ice time shrink to 13 minutes a night, (most teams 3rd pairing play 15 mins), over 3 years. Theres a better chance that Holl gets back to 2RD than Dermott playing well enough to be 2RD. Liljegren and Sandin are still rookies and not as reliable defensively as Holl.

While Holl is playing poorly now, theres no significant upgrades available at his cap hit and I just dont think the leafs need to weaken their defense to bring back a forward (especially one who is not much better than the present options on the roster).

It would be nice from the Sens perspective as well. Anything pas Zub on the right side is pretty weak. But Holl isn't all that great of an upgrade over what we already have. That being said, you'd have to take Josh Brown back due to Ottawa already having 7 D on 1-way contracts.

Mete hasn't been horrible. Definitely capable. Just handicapped when playing with J. Brown and/or Del Zotto.

How about Holl and Ritchie for J Brown and Sanford? Leafs get some capflex this year and more cap space next year (to extend Campbell and the two young Swedish D). J Brown brings toughness as a 6/7 D. Sanford would fit well with Spezza and SImmonds on the fourth line. Ottawa gets an RD upgrade and Ritchie can get a fresh start as a third line power forward.

I believe it would be an awful mistake to trade Dermy/Holl at this point. We have better fillers at forward and unless you package them for a d upgrade or top 6 forward at this point you hold them.

Not sure Ottawa bites on this one. If a player needs a fresh start after 12 games with a new team, something is wrong with the player. If Ritchie is in the deal, TOR adds a pick to satisfy the cap relief.

Best to let Ritchie figure it out with the 4th line for now, and see what happens later.

As for the original posted trade, value I think is fair, but no sense in moving an NHL caliber D right now just because Liljegren is playing well. Sucks for Holl right now, but these things happen. Sometimes a guy takes your spot and won't give it up.

Right price, wrong team.

I'd try the LA Kings.

Holl I think would be a great pic up to play 3rd pairing with Sanderson. He could fill in 2nd pairing this year, but really he is a 5-6 d man.
