I won't ever fault NYR for the Lafreniere and Kakko picks. Every GM would have made those picks.

I do think it's fair to look back at the Kravtsov and Lias Andersson picks though. Missing on top 10 picks can really hurt a franchise.

Even after 3 bad losses in a row...and realization that even before those losses this team wasn't playing well...the worst thing a team could do is make panic trades like these (2) trades. I would love to have Hertl and wouldn't mind Riley Smith...but irregardless of how things are going right now Chytl, Krav, and Kakko remain untouchable...unless a ransom is offered in return for any of them.

Wanna trade Hertl to NYR? I'll give you a 1st, Zac Jones, and Georgiev
Wanna trade Smith to NYR? I'll give you Hajek and a 3rd

I wouldn't expect either trade to get too much traction...and that's OK- I'd rather ride out the bumps in the road with the young guys as they develop.

Where do they find an extra 11m next season when Fox and Zib get raises? Let alone finding the money to bring back Hertl, Strome and Smith?

I'm OK with that...would rather get nothing for him- and watch what he does in KHL...than take a single #60ish pick for him (not very good probability of being an NHLer) while Krav becomes a star for another team. NYR hold the cards since they hold his rights until he can go UFA- many years from now. And maybe while he continues to marinate in KHL he grows up a bit and loses the bad attitude...just sayin- worked for EDM with JP!

The point was the offer would be on par with 1st, Jones, and Georgi. If not interested in Georgi or Jones NYR have plenty of picks and good prospects which could be fit into this type deal...but Kakko and Chytl would not be part of that.
