Description
So many flaws on this team and it begins on the blueline. There is no quick fix for this and the cap situation only exacerbates this. I'm sure many Canuck fans believe resigning Boeser and Miller is imperative, but why?? BB and Miller are very nice players but are not going to be part of the long term core going forward and this team is not winning anything anytime soon. IMO a team is constructed from the blue line out and that needs to start sooner than later. Is Boeser worth more? Maybe but its time to start acquiring picks and prospects ( RD especially ) and building a real hockey team. Benning needs to go, Green needs to go and a saner vision needs to be put in place. Myers and OEL are part of the problem and need to go too, but at this point it will cost too much to move on from then.

With the top 10 protection, I’d take that Boeser trade any day of the week. Tuomisto is a decent prospect, but he seems to have fallen from grace a bit since getting to the NCAA. Having a potential point per game player with Boeser is a great return for what Detroit is giving up IMO.

To make it more even Tuomisto could be replaced with a more highly touted prospect, and then add a late-rounder just for the heck of it. Boeser shouldn’t come cheap.

I hate everything about this. The only thing that has been glaringly bad is the special teams. Boeser is for sure part of the long term plans. He’s 25 heading into his prime. I’d be fine with trading Miller for assets but Boeser should be untouchable

Special teams are a symptom of larger problems. The D (especially on the right) is very weak and that pretty much ensures the long term mediocrity of this team. The Canucks are multiple players away from being a contending team (with no way to get there) and nothing short of a major overhaul is going to get them on the right track. Benning's goal has been to have a play off team and this isn't even that. A pretty sad state of affairs after 8 years. It's time for a real plan.....

Sad state of affairs after 8 years....and you want to rebuild again?tears of joy

I don't have a problem trading Miller in his last year if we can't afford to resign him, but the return from your proposed trade is light and CAR don't have the cap space, so it won't go ahead. If you trade him, you better have a plan to fill the void that he will leave on this team.

The main personnel issue we have is our lack of a decent 4C. I would be hitting up ANA for a trade to procure Grant and Deslauriers, both those guys would be welcome additions to our bottom 6.

There is very little wrong with our D corps. It has been a highlight of the team this season. The main issues are the coaching systems and the lack of confidence in our star players right now (likely due to the bad coaching systems). The only thing I would do on D is to try and find a better depth LD than Hunt, but that is a minor improvement.

"Rebuild again" implies we actually had a rebuild and I'm not sure that really happened. Benning has drafted some nice pieces but didn't rebuild the prospect pool to anywhere it needs to be for a contending team. Right now the only player on this team developed on the farm team is Demko and there are no young players ready to step in and play a meaningful role in the near future. I completely disagree with respect to the D. They have not been horrendous, but they are not very good and certainly can't compete in a seven game series with many teams. I'm not sure Hamonic or Myers even qualify as a legit 2nd pairing D on a good team, never mind either being a 1st pairing RD. BB, Miller and Horvat all need to be resigned in the next 1-2 years....how is that gonna work?? If this team is not contending by the TDL this year what makes anyone think it will happen next year?? It will be virtually the same team.

Miller should get a first and quite a good prospect, maybe a 2/3 round pick as well. BB should get a similar or better return. At some point this team needs to bring in some legit RD with real upside and one way is to trade for prospects that are close or have the potential to be difference makers.

IF the Canucks make the playoffs this is all a moot point. Demko may steal a playoff spot, but right now the PP, PK and F/O numbers are indicative of a team at the bottom of the league, so it's probably gonna be tough.
