Minnesota isn't trading Marcus foligno, he's untouchable. He's not available but if he were, which he's not, not certainly won't be helping Vegas. Gm of Minnesota is never trading him. We also not trading one of our alternative captain

I don’t have the exact math but let’s just say we’re 1/8th the way thru the season based on teams being around 10 gp, he’s still got an 8.75M cap hit for them.

Think Ottawa passes on the Marchessault trade. Yes, he’s more offensively inclined but Connor brings a lot of other elements with his game as well. Not sure if the upgrade is worth disrupting what’s in place in Ottawa and adding the 1.4m for the next 3 years.

He is on LTIR right now, so no need to trade anyone for now. But while Eichel is on LTIR Vegas will remain over their ACSL, so they are not accruing any cap space. As soon as Eichel is reactivated (estimated to be 3 months) then his full $10m cap hit will hit the roster. Vegas will have to trade some players to clear $10m of cap space by the time Eichel is reactivated. The exception would be if Eichel is not reactivated until the playoffs (like Kucherov last season). Cap is not counted in the playoffs.

The total salary cap hit for each team is calculated every day of the season. Let's say Buffalo have paid for 15% of Eichel's salary because they had him for the first 15% of the season. Once Eichel is with VGK they have to pay 85% of his salary for 85% of the season. It is essentially the same daily cap hit, which is equivalent to a $10m annual cap hit (but as previously noted VGK are getting cap relief because Eichel is on LTIR at the moment). Once he is reactivated his full cap hit will need to fit on the roster.
