Now they have a good bit of cap space to sign a LD for next year (and re-sign Dobson to a deal)

Why not just take on a real cap dump and get assets? Kevyn Adams is confusing.

Sabres gets to trade out players at the deadline and still be cap compliant after that big trade with Vegas.

Islanders save money by getting a contract of a player that will never play again off the books.

Other than that, it's nothingness for nothingness.

Fair deal.

The Sabres actually needed to make this trade, not the Islanders. They needed a contract in order to not fall below the cap floor if it turns out that they're deadline sellers.

Sabres could've just gotten a real cap dump from somewhere and gotten assets for it.

Or they could have done the NHL 22 move and give a random free agent a 1year $18M contract (or something like 7) and they could avoid helping the Islanders

Probably needed to get back over the cap floor immediately and someone on LITR was the fastest way to do that.

Pretty sure he was still above the cap floor following the trade. Couldn't be hard to find a team to take a little salary dump.

Chicago wouldn't pay is to take someone, neither would SJS, MTL, LAK, DAL, CGY, NJ (Johnsson's been decent I thought). WSH, VGK, TOR, OTT, NYR, NYI (maybe at the deadline), MIN, STL, PIT.

Boston, Carolina, Florida, and Colorado might all do it but closer to the deadline

No, that 1 option the NYI. the sabres had to do that trade ASAP to bring back Jokiharju. They can do any of those trades still as well at the trade deadline.

Some of those guys are former sabers would be funny to see them come back. Buffalo will take back Kane for another 1st from sj, we didn't like how late the last one was especially with Ott getting top 5 the next year.

I agree. I'll take Kane back then flip Bjork for Strome + Shaw.

We need Zaitsev to hit the floor next year.

He'll either be bought out or buried in the minors at a reduced cap hit if he can't stay on the roster.

No reason to spend assets on dumping him.

What? They just protected him in the expansion draft, not a chance they pay to dump Holl. I think he'd cost at least a 3rd round pick for a team to get him.
