A trade involving Dermott and Holl can be with any team.

I'm just using Ottawa as an example.

Because of Holl's struggles to stay in the lineup late and also that Dermott is sometimes a 6th/7th defenceman for the Leafs, I can imagine that any draft pick that is acquired would have to be performance based.

This is what I think Holl and Dermott are worth if we are measuring their value using draft picks.

A 3rd round pick for each of them.

But the question then becomes ...

Who replaces Dermott and Holl?

Because if I was a Leafs fan, a defence corps where half of it is comprised of Sandin, Liljegren and an AHL filler is simply not good enough.

I don't see both being traded but if I was to guess it might be Dermott. IMO the RD usually wins out and they probably hope they can get Holl back to the player he was. He logs the most mins out of any dman on the PK

Justin Schultz seems to be off to a great start defensively, but isn't doing much on offense. That's the opposite of his reputation. A team with a top four spot for him, and some power play time, might just get more out of him. 4M cap hit is tough, but if Holl is dumped elsewhere, maybe WSH would take Ritchie for Schultz?
