Pens decline and block your number. They aren’t trading one of their top scorers on a great contract for a cap dump. Rust alone is worth a 1st a decent prospect. Add a cap dump like Kassian then the Oilers need to add 2 more 1sts to that.

Kassian hasn’t been bad as of late and even if he was preforming poorly oilers would only dump him with a second rounder not two firsts and rust would be a rental for the oilers at the tdl so the price would be a first.

As pens fan I love Rust. Depending on how the season goes they may trade away pending ufas. But if you get Rust play him on the first line he makes everyone he plays with better, Leon and McD better would not be fair.
Plus Rust maybe just as fast as McD.

He stinks. He is coming off a year where he had a whopping 5 points. All while getting the majority of offensive zone starts. He has terrible possessions stats. The pens might play him a whole 5 minutes a game like they did with Reaves. The only difference is that Reaves is better than Kassian.
Rust being a rental doesn’t decrease his value. In fact probably raises it as teams won’t be married to the player if it doesn’t work out. If it does, it gives them a head start to work on an extension. If you want a cheap rental winger, then the pens have Rodrigues, Simon, ZAR, and Boyle to trade. The pens are looking to extend Rust and the only way they trade him is if they get a haul for him. If you think Kassian is only worth a 2nd to dump, then find a team that might agree with that. But I guarantee a team that’s got very little cap room if any at all is going to want anything less than 1sts just to take him on.

Zero chance the hawks to accept that terrible offer. Stop using your cap dumps as if they have value.

Iam not using those “cap dumps” as value. The value is the draft picks. Oilers have to send cap back so they can afford fleury and both of them are on expiring deals so it won’t really matter anyways.

Just cus you need to send cap back to make it work doesn't mean you get to dump those players for free. Flower for a 3rd is fine but if your sending back those cap dumps it's gonna cost more.
