Schultz is a better power play QB than Rielly. Schultz is worth Sandin and a 1st at the deadline, if the Caps were rebuilding.
Wilson is tied for 1st in assists among right wings this year. He doesn't have a power play point yet, but with Backstrom and Oshie both injured, he's going to get more power play time. He could get more than a point a game for the next week or so, and then he'll likely go back to his usual role of just forechecking and getting the puck out to Ovechkin and Kuznetsov at even strength, with a little bit of penalty killing.
I think Wilson is worth more than Amirov and two 1sts, even if the Caps were rebuilding.
Are Amadio and Liljegren big enough sweeteners to get a non-rebuilding team to give up two good two-way players? Most of the Caps fans commenting here said no, already.
I think it might take Matthews.
To simplify: he's valuable as a playmaker, a puck possession player who can help out on any line, a penalty killer, and a net-front guy on the power play who is good at screening goalies and agitating defensemen. Does he still finish checks and defend teammates from agitators? Yes. But those aren't the main reasons half of the Leafs fans on this board want to trade for him. Those aren't the reasons he was a top-20 pick. That's not why the Caps pay him $5M a year. He's a well-rounded player, and his next contract will be closer to 6 or 7 million, with more term, in Washington.
Since you haven't read any of the above conversation, here's another Caps fan's response:

I am sick of all these wilson to the leafs trades, they are all stupid and are not going to happen. Washington is not trading wilson unless someone overpays to get him. They wouldn't even do marner 50% retained for wilson.
Right. Leaving aside that the above package is worth a lot more than Marner, this week, Wilson is an important part of the Capitals and is not likely to get traded.
Is it possible the Leafs pass on Schultz and just want Wilson, midseason? I don't know. Make an offer. But I think Schultz helps Toronto's power play, and he's become a pretty good defenseman these days.
