You guys think absolutely every trade is unreasonable and it's hard to negotiate with brick walls. Wouldn't be calling other fanbases delusional either, by the way. Glass houses.
I’ll honestly say that I’ve seen a lot of quick rejections by fellow Wings fans (sorry), but it doesn’t help when the trades are
A) For spare parts that don’t make a decent impact on the roster
B) Trades involving players like Larkin, Raymond, Bert, etc
A quick guide on dos/don’ts in a Red Wings trade (at least in my eyes):
1. We want futures. While involving a solid veteran player in a trade helps the value, after a certain age it’s much harder to get down with the idea of trading for them. My age cutoff would be 27 or 28, but it’s different for everybody. Remember that we’re still in a rebuild, and our one big veteran pickup for this year has already happened (Leddy).
2. We like having good young players, please don’t trade for them and give us worse players in return. The aim for us in a trade involving one of our higher quality players would be to get an upgrade, a fairly lateral move in skill to a younger player (EX: Mantha deal), or to get two good players in exchange for giving up one that’s a little better than both.
3. Picks are good. We like draft picks. Don’t trade for our first rounder though.
4. We don’t want your spare parts. Sure, Dermott is a fine player and Engvall is a decent bottom sixer, but we don’t want to give up assets for them when our roster isn’t significantly affected by acquiring them.
Also, because I’m assuming you want some feedback on this Raymond-Marner trade, here’s my take. Raymond is looking to become the kind of offensive driver Marner is right now. Maybe he peaks a little lower, but that’s besides the point. Raymond is 5 years younger. Marner is good, but I’d rather have seven years of team control over Raymond than four years of Marner at a nearly $11mil cap hit. So if I see Raymond as having more value than Marner, why would I pony up a first and two seconds to swap the two? It puts the Wings in a worse situation than if they just keep Raymond, the first, and the seconds.
Sorry for the long paragraph, just wanted to get a lot of information across at once. Not directed negatively at any person or team btw, just a guide to maybe help prevent some future disagreements.
