Zach Whitecloud a signé un contrat de 6 ans d'une valeur de 16 500 000 $ avec les Golden Knights de Vegas, le 28 oct. 2021. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 2 750 000 $.
Young and cost-controlled RHDs are worth their weight in gold to teams. Locking up a decently-good one to a rate that Tucker Poolman got in UFA is a pretty solid get. This will be a possible blueprint for the Ethan Bear talks, perhaps, albeit his will likely be a little bit more expensive because he has slightly more offense to his game.
Now THAT's a good contract. He's only 24, so if he goes off in a couple years' time, this will look like the best contract for a defenseman in the NHL.
GREAT contract for a valuable young defenseman. Term is a little longer than I thought the Golden Knights would give, or get. AAV shows the value of a no-income-tax state.

This ain't about a no income tax state, at least not really. This is the same winner's discount that teams like the Islanders (Pelech/Pulock/Mayfield), the Canes (Svechnikov), or the Bruins (Hall/Carlo) get. Look at how the Florida Panthers, in a no-income-tax state, used to drastically overpay free agents as recently as 2 years ago...that is, until they started to win. This is the true disparity in the NHL free agency rates.

Where did you read that I implied that no-income-tax was the exclusive factor in this arrangement?

"AAV shows the value of a no-income-tax state."
I never stated that you said that it was the no-income-tax exclusively. What I'm saying is that the tax rates have far less of an impact than CW or even compared to what you said, at least in my opinion. The bigger factor is "the winner's discount".
Worst case scenario: The 24-year-old Whitecloud is done developing and Las Vegas gets a solid 4/5 defender at a fair price
Best case: He continues getting better and becomes a legit top 4 RHD on a contender until he's 30.
Very good signing IMO for a bonified third-pairing defenseman. TBH, he probably won't be anything more than a quality third pairing defenseman in his career, but this is a very good cap hit to get him at for the years to come
This is unironically the best defenseman signed today. No one in this league can evaluate defense apparently, cause there's no reason for Whitecloud to be paid this little if people know how good he is at it.
