So no big name free agent this coming summer even after trading Bailey? Who takes his spot? That's my first takeaway from this. It also looks like you kept Varly through his contract expiring which I'm not entirely sure happens. Pretty sure the cap should be at $83.5m by this time as well

I think theyre going to try to sign Forsberg if he doesn’t sign with the preds. I personally don’t think he signs with the isles tho.

A few things :
1. Wahlstrom is on the trajectory a being a star. A 30-35 G scorer with a great defensive impact and elite on the PP

2. Beauvillier will 100% hit 30 goals in the next 2 years

3. The isles don’t struggle to score goals and they don’t lack a “sniper”

4. Signing players in free agency is usually a bad idea

Forsberg is a big name but he hasn’t been been better than Beauvillier over the last two seasons. He’s not a star. I wouldn’t mind signing him I guess , but he’s exiting his prime.

The only star available over the next few seasons are Johnny gaudreau and David Pasternak. Patrick Kane and filip Forsberg are no longer stars, just solid top 6 guys. I doubt Lou has interest in Gaudreau and I would throw the bag at Pasternak because he’s a superstar but he probably re-signs with Boston.

There are a few underrated stars that could potentially be available in a trade next offseason and I’d be all over getting one of them. Dominik Kubalik and Kevin Fiala. I would guess both would cost a 1st , 2nd + Bolduc. They are both legitimate 1st line talents and still relatively young. That’s who we should be targeting.

Btw I think Golyshev takes Baileys spot next season assuming he continues to light it up in the A. He’s a goal scorer and he looks very dynamic for Bridgeport right now. Looks like he can be a solid 2nd liner who can score 20-25 goals.

Gotcha. I think Golyshev could be an NHLer next season too if not called up sooner. I think he would start more in a 3rd line role though. I feel like you're banking on a lot bouncing right (Wahlly/Beau/Goly) in order to be as good/better. I think there is no such thing as toon many scorers, so if there is a way to add goals (subtract Bailey in process) I'm all for it. I'll work on the assumption you added a Gio or something as a 1 year stop gap for 22-23. But I don't loooove the third pair situation either. Those are just filler guys. I get that. But IMO for a "meh" bottom pairing, especially at $4.5m, to not have a legit piece somewhere in this lineup it feels like a wasted opportunity

I am not really banking on Golyshev, This is assuming he continues to do well in the A and gets called up this season to show what he can do- he’ll be playing on the 3rd line most likely, so there’s no pressure.

The disrespect to Beauvillier + Wahlstrom lol. Something has gone terribly wrong if a 24 YO who has produced at a 1st line rate over the last year gets worse and a 21 YO who scored goals at a higher rate than 90% of NHL forwards gets worse. That’s usually not how aging curves work. There’s a higher chance Wahlstrom scores 30 goals next season than Forsberg.

I’m all for adding goal scoring , but the isles are better off targeting a younger goal scorer by trade than overpaying in free agency. Once that Forsberg contract is signed you can’t move it.

Murray and Jensen are both 2nd pair guys right now. The Murray contract is a 2 year deal signed in the 2022 offseason (expires when Salo is due for a new contract) and the Jensen deal is signed in the 23 offseason. They are both legit two way D who can skate. Gio will be 40 in this season, I think we need to chill with signing 40 year D who used to be good

Not many teams want a 33 year old 3rd line winger making 5 mill per.
