When the Jets have just revamped their defense over the summer and have had less than 10 games to let the guys get used to each other.

That's fan thinking (the grass is always greener). The idea is to build a team that wins on the ice. Not just collect talent and make a team that looks great on paper.

Nashville had their chance to move Ekholm and kept their price unreasonable and weren't able to move him. Winnipeg has no reason or obligation to correct that mistake for Nashville. Nashville can just rebuild around a 31 year old defenseman.
