Even to a homer Leaf fan like myself, but apparently not to some (likely just 1) poster.

Your point was that Futures have more Value than Actuals. Use a more realistic one

Eichel and Laf for example. Who would have to add, BUF or NYR? anyone that says BUF is laughable.

Why do I have to change it?

You literally said buffalo would have to add in a Muzzin for Power trade.

You also think 32yo Kane has more value than 24yo Marner which doesn't make sense either.

That's a weird example because Eichel is injured. If he was healthy, he would definitely have more value. Right now it's unclear because of the injury

Elite potential 18 yr old for a regressing top 4 d-man who's also turning 33 seems pretty stupid.

Nobody but a serious cup contender would probs do that or even consider that.

Like pretend Tampa drafted Power, dont think Bris Bois will wait for him to develop and would instead look at him as a trade piece. Thats where Muzzin would come in as with 2 years left Tampa would find a way to make it work then trade for Muzzin and not worry about the consequences as a dcore of

Hedman-Rutta
Mcdonagh-Cernak
Muzzin-Sergechev

pretty much = 3 time champs lul

Now when it comes to Buffalo they are rebuilding so guys like Power are necessary for said rebuild so they dont care rn if hes playing for them or not. Toronto on the other hand is trying to win now so guys like Muzzin are needed for that not guys who need development like Power. So nobody wins in the end as both teams dont meet their objectives.

But in any other situation nobody does that.

Top three picks can be worth as many as three mid to late first round picks, while a top ten pick can be worth as many as two later first rounders. Jake Muzzin is at best, worth two second round picks. As valuable of a defenseman he is, you can't deny he is starting to get up there in age, the main reason Muzzin will never get traded is because of his NMC

Power has more trade value atm but trade value rises and falls, there is nothing to dictate the most recent number 1 pick will not be a superstar in the league at the moment. you dont trade future superstar esq talent for aging vets... if you are comping to muzzin, you would need to add significant pieces to get power as whats buffalo going to do with muzzin? Someone above said you have to also gauge fit which is true. At most muzzin would return a cal foote late round 1st type of player. I dont know when the last 1st overall pick was traded or when the last top 10 pick that was playing up to his ceiling was moved though. Like hanifin was traded with lindholm for dougie (who was the add there, lindholm or hanifin?) but again dougie was a young budding star in the league that calgary didnt want to pay. lias andersson was a bust and got dealt for low value.

LAF vs Eichel isnt a good scenario. when healthy you have a young guaranteed superstar vs a budding former number 1 pick. Eichel demanded a trade which automatically lessens his perceived value.

Kane vs marner, both players are established stars in the league. it simply comes down to goal scorer vs playmaker and what you need and for how long. i feel like marner still holds more value because A) you would have him on a longer contract than kane, B) hes 8 years younger and still has room to grow), and C) kane is 32 and has alot of miles on his legs between olympics, national team stuff, playoffs for almost a decade, etc.
