Barzal is due for a huge raise after his contract ends there’s a high chance Wahlstrom hits 30 goals either this season or next. They won’t be able to afford both with the lindholm/forsberg contracts

That's funny. I had a different idea too but not sure if it would work. Basically the two trades above plus a third one: Nelson and Bolduc for Jonas Brodin. He plays very similar to Pelech. Has same cap hit as Nelson (Wild need a C) and Bolduc/Lambos grow in to fill LD hole. Then I signed Hertl instead of Forsberg and put him at 1C. Barzal can get some better matchups at 2C as he did in his rookie campaign. Numbers worked out fine cap wise

After this season above, the Isles will have approx $16.3m in space. That's enough for Barzal (who I'd say gets about $9m - maybe slightly less because we've seen Pulock/Pelech take team deals), Wahlstrom can get between $3-4m on a bridge, then you use the remaining cap to fill. It's actually very doable and I've shown it before on CF

With an 82.5 mill cap , they would be over the cap. Lindholm wouldn’t sign for 5.5 even on an 8 year deal. He can get 7.5-8 mill as a free agent, I don’t see why he’d take that much to sign with the isles. Also I’m pretty sure it was rumored that forsberg sees himself as being worth minimum 8 mill.

I have Barzal getting at least 10 mill, he is not going to take a discount. I’d rather not bridge Wahlstrom if we don’t have to, you want to get your top players signed long term.

I’m fine with going after Forsberg, but Lindholm makes little sense. It blocks Salo and we already have two #1 defenseman with another one (Dobson) on the same trajectory.

Barzal will not get more than what Barkov got. He wants to stay here - mark that down. Salo can be LD3 in that scenario with Lindholm. I think going the 8th year makes a difference with his rights. Ducks fans I saw on here speculated somewhere between $6-7m on a 6-7 year deal. The highest estimate I saw was $6.75x6. Could that be wrong? Sure. But for the sake of the argument that's $40.5m total. $5.5x8 is $44m. Is it that crazy? I don't think so. He's not making that AAV at 34-35 years old when this new deal he signs expires. Just tagged you in an example

Florida has no state income tax - i am not doubting he wants to stay here , but he wants to be paid what he thinks he’s worth. it was speculated that Lou and Barzal were working on a 6 year deal at over 9 mill per before he ended up signing the bridge. That was without arbitration rights, barzal didn’t have much leverage. Now he does.

It doesn’t matter what Ducks fan say, do you see the market for defenseman right now? Lindholm is a top pair D and he’s better than Darnell Nurse, there are multiple teams that would throw at least 7 mill at him in free agency.

our cap outlook is looking a lot better than a couple of years ago, id like to keep that going. The focus next offseason should be locking up Barzal and Wahlstrom. I'd give Wahlstrom something similar to the Farabee contract.

Can you give me an example ACGM of how you view this team based on what we're talking about? I'm curious what your optimal vision is for everything. Contracts, UFA, trades etc.

IMO we need to add a scorer and a stop gap LD at the minimum

I guess yours? Whatever we've been debating back and forth about. The vision of your team with Barzy at $10m and a Wahlstrom long term contract

Yeah. I hope they give him a 6+ year deal. If he progresses as i expect anywhere between 5-6 million on a 6+ year deal is good by me.

Doubt the isles move on from any of their forwards besides bailey tbh (and parise obviously), Bailey is probably gone soon
