Tampa Big 5 (Kucherov, Stammer, Point, Hedman, Vasy) = $45M
Toronto Big 5 (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly) = $48M

Pls don't compare them, eh?
Hedman is massively superior than Mo
Vasy is more important than Marner
Point is a better playoff guy than Matthews
Kuch torches Nylander
JT beats Stammer but not by a ton

Kurcherov 6 years
Vasilevskiy 7 years
Headman 4 years
Stamkos 3 years

Matthews 3 years
Nylander 3 years
Marner 4 years
Tavares 4 years
Rielly 8 years

Well, this one’s pretty much over.

Bobcat’s Post Game Notes, Game 7

Jackets lose 4-0 to the New York Rangers.

-I don’t think I have any room to make any “Rangers organization is broken” jokes after this game.

-Chris Kreider has had a good season so far. That continues tonight with another power-play goal.

-Zach made a pretty good play for Hofmann but Shesterkin had a pretty save.

-50 Cent was in the Garden for tonight. Cool.

As long as Auston is a Leaf they will also have a chance. Keeping him in 3 years 🤷‍♂️ who knows

So despite the Tampa tax benefits they only save 3mill in total

Interesting

Not really they could just go grab someone/s via FA as there are some big names available for both 2024 and 2025

People said the same thing about the Islanders when Tavares left look at them now

Josh Ho-Sang is the first star tonight in Belleville. Ho-Sang and Alex Steeves combined for 10 shots in tonight's game. Steeves with 1 assist and Ho-Sang 2 goals

I mean if he walks and they bring in Aho and then use the extra room to bring in a top 4 Dman like Toews it balances out

Islanders lost Tavares and in a sense replaced him with depth and it worked out nicely

Could also do Lindholm and some other depth that works to.

-DeAngelo really showed what he's made of today

-Raanta was okay but had some scary moments

-Top Forwards just keepin' it rolling

So the Hurricanes and Panthers keep the streak alive, and so do Arizona and Chicago.

The record for longest winning streak to start a season is 10 games. (Florida is at 8, Carolina is at 7)

The record for longest losing streak (including OT/SO) to start the season is 11 games. (Arizona & Chicago are at 8)

You’re acting like they’re equal though. Kucherov is better than Matthews, Point is better than Marner, Hedman is better than Rielly, Vasilevskiy is better than Nylander, and Stamkos is better than Tavares. And I would say only the 5th comparison is even somewhat close, although Stamkos has still had the slight edge their whole careers imo. Plus Tampa’s includes the best goalie in the world, and the Leafs are left trying to hunt for a goalie in the bargain bin. So it saves them 3mil, and also is a significantly better core in every imaginable aspect.

I wonder if Chicago or Arizona beats the longest losing streak record (18 games) tied for rn by the 2020-2021 Sabers and 2003-2004 Penguins

Mmm Kucherov aint better than Matthews as they rn are in the same caliber with Matthews having the edge do to his age and status as a center. Rn you could argue both are the same as one plays center and one plays wing and unless they play the same position you really cant compare the two properly as centers often have it harder than wings. If we go by scoring, shot and point production both excel in that role with Matthews having a slight advantage in his shot. That and teams often want top 6 centers more so than wings as star strutted centers are not as common as they used to be. Will give you Point over Marner and Hedman over Rielly, Stamkos and Tavares are the same except they use different offensive tools. Cant really compare a goalie to a forward as one saves pucks while the other scores and generates offense. Its like comparing a pitcher to an outfielder in baseball just does not work.

Idk… what Kucherov has done is remarkable. Like using that word heavily. Matthews is a franchise star, a player with even more potential. But Kucherov has had a a superstar a career with some of the best play off performance records.

I added to it above. RN they are the same. Kucherov has had a solid career but so has Matthews. Advantage to Matthews is hes younger and still has room to grow. Rn I would say both are in the same caliber as both be top 5 in their own regard (Center and RW lists), both produce like crazy, both got wicked shots, but when it comes to top wings over centers people often chose the center.

Now one thats even closer than these 2 is Crosby vs. Ovie in their primes
