Maybe not Malkin, but Crosby would. Hes a top 3 player in the world and the pens wouldnt trade him for less, honestly it would probably take more for the pens to move the best hockey player drafted since Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux

He might be the greatest but not the best (McDavid) but that's beside the point. The Crosby trade is more realistic but I still do not think that it is realistic for the Avs to give up byram (insane upside, low cap hit) and a first for three years of $8.7m on the back end of Crosby's career with a Mackinnon pay raise imminent

The trades do not specifically have to be with that team. Also I'd like to get your opinion of McDavid and Crosby. If Crosby was the same age as McDavid in this year right now, who'd be the better player? I'm going with Crosby because his IQ is above any one elses in the league and has just made the smartest playsand most unique. Hes always doing something new every game whether that's a new goal no ones seen or a new pass that no ones seen. I think the battle would be close though and would be very interesting to see how people would take sides of the two best hockey players in the league

Connor McDavid is the best player to ever play the sport. Gretzky has the career and is the greatest ever, I get it. But if you but McDavid on the ice with any other player to ever touch ice, he is the best player on the ice.

Crosby has never touched point numbers that McDavid is putting up these days. All credit to Crosby, I have great respect for him and consider one of the all time great players. What I'm saying is not meant to discount Sid. McDavid is on another level than just about anything the league has ever seen skill wise

Bryan Rust will be 30 years old next season and is UFA to be after this season. So he'd be traded as a rental here

Jacob Bernard-Docker will be a reliable second pairing D-man for a long time

2023 1st round pick (OTT) could be "later" than the pick this year but shouldn't be lower than top-20

Ottawa would be crazy to make that deal

34 years old is irrelevant when I'm comparing McDavid now vs any season of Crosby's career

Like I said Crosby is a defensive player also let's keep in mind that when McDavid scores hes always doing the same thing over and over. Crosby on the other hand does it very uniquely

You can just say you don't watch McDavid man, its really okay.

Even if what you said were true, who cares if it's "unique" if it ends up in the back of the net

I won't deny that Crosby's game is more well rounded but I stand by McDavid being the best hockey player anyone has ever seen. He can do things nobody ever has and shows it just about every night

You're $8MM below the cap floor, even with the three retained salaries. There's a reason rebuilding teams have a few overpaid players, for instance Colin White, Nikita Zaitsev, and Matt Murray for the Sens. Without those contracts, they don't reach the cap floor. Now that they are coming out of the rebuild, you'll see those contracts dealt with, as needed.

Now that's a complete joke (no offense). Pretty sure anyone would trade Sid for arguably the best player to ever step foot on the ice (McD) whos 10 years younger and still has room to get better. He may be that valuable to the Pens but he isn't to other teams, which is why Crosby will never be traded.

Every team says no imo

I wouldn't trade Byram 1 for 1 cause Avs need defense

Also wouldn't trade Tippett for Malkin 1 for 1 cause Malkin is injury prone and old (only reason Ovi is still worth a decent amount is cause he is defying aging, lol)

MASSIVE overpayment for Letang imo. (Especially since it's a rental, same with Malkin)

1
that is what I'm saying... he will never be traded. but your take about "the best player to ever step foot on the ice (McD)"... that is a complete joke (no offense). young Crosby was better and won in the 4th year of his career. he needs to win before he can be even compared to guys like geno and ovi. he needs to win more than 2 to be on of the best. he's not close to goat status yet. Crosby is just miles ahead in that discussion. (Obviously mcd has time to better his resume)

2
I get your point of those players being overvalued by the pens cuz of the cups they brought and sentimental attachment BUT you are definitely undervaluing their play on ice at this time and underestimating what winning cups mean to franchises. I mean malkin for Tippett 1 for 1 (pens would never make this trade) but panthers would be very stupid not to accept: a decent winger for a 50% chance of winning the cup. (if geno is healthy florida with that trade would win the cup hands down) that is how much difference a healthy geno still makes in this league.
