Hey for a 6th round pick, I think Spezza would be a good add for a play-off push or Stanley cup run. I just don’t see where he fits when/If the Pens get completely healthy..?? Although the Pens do need another RH forward that takes face-offs.
But completely healthy:
Guentzel/Sid/Rust
Zucker/Geno/Kappy
OConnor/J.Carter/Heinen
ZAR/Blueger/McGinn
And the Pens would still have D.Simon, E-Rod, Lafferty, B.Boyle, Angello, Zohorna all being NHL level depth. Plus add Spezza. And S.Poulin, N.Legare, Hallander, Puustinen, Bjorkqvist all playing for WBS Pens in the AHL and all very close to being or NHL ready.
I can see the Pens going after a back-up goalie/1B goalie partner for T.Jarry. Or a 3rd pairing RHD.
Completely healthy the Pens D-Pairings:
Dumoulin/Letang
Pettersson/Marino
Matheson/Friedman
And they have Ruhwedel(RHD), Riikola(LHD and is the 1st unit PP point for WBS Pens in the AHL; and nothing but rave reviews this season with him being completely healthy). And PO-J(LHD), being the Pens top prospect and NHL ready with NHL experience all ready. And Cam lee(LHD/RHD) is a lesser known prospect but all very good reports saying he’s an NHL D-man.
The Pens are pretty deep with NHL level depth. Like I said, Maybe a back-up goalie instead of DeSmith or a 3rd pairing RHD. But the Pens AHL goalies are playing really well too and looked good during camp/pre-season; both Louis Domingue and Filip Lindberg.
