Halfway Through the Season

Explications
After 40 games, the Ducks are out of a playoff spot and don't realistically have a chance to get into one. The Ritchie experiment is a failure, but Toronto, although behind Florida, Tampa and Boston, should still qualify for the post-season if they finish with a closing rush. Rakell gives the Maple Leafs a legitimate #2LW and Manson is better at #3RD than Dermott. In my opinion, adding these two players is worth losing Kerfoot, and Toronto gets to keep both their 2022 first and their 2023 first.

In my opinion, Kyle Dubas shouldn't wait for the trade deadline to right the ship if the Maple Leafs aren't well over .500.

Yeah, healthy Manson ask would be Savard-type return. Will they get it? Who knows...but GM's overvalue the qualities that he brings to the table (Once again, see: David Savard). Rakell would be similar to, if not more than Foligno. He's finally scoring again (4 goals in 6 games), playing bigger minutes, and it's only a matter of time before Eakins finally puts Comtois-Zegras-Rakell together, which should further boost the offence.

i could see and NHL ready prospect / young player + 2nd. Liljegren seems like he would replace an expiring contract at that position

I'm trying to be as realistic and conservative as possible. Obviously, as a Ducks guy, I'd like to get more, but since we've all thought that Murray's asking price for both of these UFAs is a first plus, and no deal has happened, I'm not optimistic that that's what we're going to get. Of course, I agree with your and @Salzy's previous expressions that it's better to keep Josh Manson around to give Jamie Drysdale some protection while he develops (at least for this year), but at some point, we're going to have to pull that particular trigger if we can't (or don't want to) re-sign him.

Well, that's been the rumored asking price all along, and we haven't seen any deals, so . . .

Of course, demand always increases as the season end approaches.

In my mind, Liljegren is close to the value of a first, especially due to his term.

Welcome to CapFriendly, by the way.

Ah, I didn't look at who the OP was!

I guess with Manson, my thoughts were that he wasn't healthy last year, so teams likely didn't want to gamble at that point. I don't think the return is bad, per se, but I'd be surprised if Toronto preferred moving Lilly over their 1st rounder. They've spent a lot of time developing him...

As for Niemela, it's sort of the same thought in my head-they've got a 19 year old performing at a solid rate offensively (albeit in Finland), so they might be anti-prospect moving at this point.

Off topic question, do you guys think a trade that involves Rickard Rakell and Vitali Kravtsov is feasible by any chance? (such as Krav + 2nd)

What would the asking price for Terry / Steel be? (Capitals)

As a Leaf fan I will be very disappointed to see Niemelä included in any trade. I would happily decline if his name is asked for

I mean, it's not really something that I'd be super into, but I can't even imagine that the Ducks would consider it anyway...Yes, Kravtsov certainly has some potential, but Bob Murray has been pretty anti-Russian with his roster makeup throughout, which I'd assume has something to do with the potential for similar situations as to what the Rangers have on their hands now...for reference, Murray has drafted a total of 2 (!!!) Russians in the past 10+ years.

Terry is pretty valuable for us right now, and is the type of player that this team will want around as the rebuild moves forward.

I know that Steel has been a name thrown around here, and while I wouldn't want to move him, fair value is likely a late 2nd. To me, I think they should be keeping him though. Ceiling is good, and he's at the floor right now, which is as a solid 3C. Maybe he never surpasses that, but for $874 K, I don't think it'd be wise to move him for a pick that has a 50/50 shot at getting anywhere close to his level...that's not to say that he's been great, I just think he's a fine player to keep around.

You too!

Just to expand on it a bit, because it's hilarious in a kind of perplexing way...Volkov was the first Russian on the roster since Khubodin in 15/16 (USSR-9 games played), who was the first since Ducks legend Evgeny Artyukhin (09/10, 37 games played). Bryz last played for the Ducks in 07/08. I feel like a hilariously fun fact for the Ducks is that, since Bryz left, they've had almost 5 times as many games played by Italians than they have from Russian/USSR players.

As my esteemed colleague @Lenny7 says, Troy Terry probably isn't available for anything sensible but Sam Steel could probably be bought for that Winnipeg 2022 second.

I don't think so. In the past, we've avoided anyone who has a whiff of conflict with management.
