This trade just makes sense. Maybe a higher pick if Arizona is going to retain that much of his contract though?

If you get a high-pick (2nd round in my mind) for a quality top-6 deadline piece it might be the best bet. Remember, if he isn't played, his development will go down the craphole.

If the plan is to trade Kessel at the TDL for good value- I don't dislike that plan...I just don't trust that NYR will follow through with that. I think they will be pushing for a playoff spot...and if that's the case, no way will they sell off any pieces...if anything they may look to buy more (in essence double down on adding rentals at the expense of futures). This would be bad!

As far as a top prospect for Krav...I'd be kidding myself to think they would actually get that, the way he split town- but doesn't mean you don't ask for that. In the end if they could negotiate into a 2022 2nd and an early 2022 3rd...or a 2022 2nd and a 2023 2nd...at some point you have to cut your losses and move on. But short of that type of return I'd be happier to see him sit tight in Russia, with his value dwindling by the week than accept a lowball deal for him- only to see him "grow up" with another organization and become a star. Remember- NYR hold all the cards here since they have his rights until he can go UFA at 27.
