Description
I’m sure Mitch will find his game at some point. Till then let’s make some wild hot headed trades.

Philly loses a contract. Gets a star player. Preds get some needed futures. Would assume pick is top 5 protected. Either team interested?

Can I have some more pls.

Not an overreaction, this team has serious flaws. The flat cap makes it impossible to compete with over 40mil tied to 4 players. Marner is the only real option, but if I could trade JT I would in a heart beat

Tampa is 2-3-1, Vegas is 1-4-0, Montreal is 1-4-0, Chicago is 0-5-1, and Colorado is 2-3-0.

Buffalo is 4-1-1, San Jose is 4-1-0.

It’s a weird start to the season. Not just the Leafs.

I believe Matthews and Marner, and everyone else, will find their game and we’ll be fine.

Side-note; I’m not sure Philly can accept because of cap. They’d be crazy not to though.

THANK YOU. SOMEONE had to say it. Buffalo thumped Tampa today, I guess Buffalo is a cup contender lol.

Can we put a little context to some of those teams pls:
COL has missed MacKinnon (Covid) Landeskog (suspended 2 games) (Towes injured)
VGS is missing Stone Pacioretty Whitecloud Tuch
MTL list is too long for who’s out
CHI is just terrible
TBL is missing their entire 3rd line from last year and Kuch out again
CHI is just a tire fire

Toronto is not in the same boat as any of these teams. This team is in serious trouble

Philly doesn;t have the cap for it, and I'm not sure theres anybody they could add.... Koneckny and LW Lindblom or Scott LAughton might be it to make it work, but dont think they'll add anything else (1st or Frost).

Marner is a star, but youre selling low on a guy who's making 10mil+.

Toronto doesn;t have the problems all those other teams have and are healthy. Toronto's issues are about overall team talent/balance/scheme. They'll get their wins, but this isn;t a team, this is like 8-9 good players, a couple of average role players and a bunch of stiffs and the TOI/G reflect that.

YOu can't honestly watch the Leafs right now and think they are a good team.
Kampf is their third line Center!!
BUnting is the First Line LW ( has 21 Games only )
Kerfoot is the 2nd Line LW
Holl is in the top 4 D
Then there is the money issue, you can't afford good depth, becasue the superstar players are more interested in the Money, the way they look coming to the rink, and individual stats then winning actual games.
Bring up some youth and players that want to prove something. Ho-Sang and Krill would be a start
Seems like there is lots of ego's on this team. Money and individual stats seem more important than winning in my eyes.

I'm just not going to watch until they improve. I have better things to worry about and occupy my evenings with than a bad hockey team.

I wasn’t sure when Hayes was due back. Any salary Philly would like to dump? Could flip to preds or even make this a 3way trade.

Matthews has been good. JT a bit unlucky. Marners effort is just abysmal.

If marner and Muzzin payed better and Keefe didn’t sabotage the top line with ritchie this team would be 5-1-1 possibly 7-0

Your optimism is commendable. They just look like a defeated team. I mean Matthews was at the end of a shift, but that back check against Aho were Campbell made a terrific save was inexcusable.
You have an aging Tavares who no longer looks like a dominant C; Muzzin who is either dealing with an injury or worse wear/tear on his body is breaking him down; Holl( who couldn’t defend a 2 on 1 if is life depended on it); Marner who is a shell of his former self and can’t get out of his own head; a PP that is still terrible; still can’t start a game on time; a total lack of fight or team toughness; a coach who can’t get his players to buy in; a team that is right up against the salary cap and can’t even really make an in season trade; two big FA’s in Rielly and Campbell who one if not both could walk at the end of the year because they don’t have the cap space to resign them joining a very long list of other players who have walked and the Leafs have nothing to show for.

This looks like a team that has lost consecutive first rounds in the playoffs. Nothing has changed. They will probably will string together some wins, battle for one of the wild card spots. But I see a sinking ship. Hope I am wrong.

Jack Han also mentioned that they switched up there 1-1-3 setup from last year back to a 2-2-1. Not sure if that’s Dean Chynoweth’s decision but that’s been a huge problem for this team, defending the rush.

Rant over, it’s just a hard team to like.

Holl broke up a 3 on 1 last night and then drew a penalty 3 seconds later. Muzzin went in to play with Brodie and left him out to dry and yet another goal. Holl is no superstar Dman but he is quite serviceable and has been pulling his weight. Muzzin has been are worst defender.

Matthews also had a few very good back checks last night. The top line was okay. They were at least trying. Mitch is just completely out of sorts and ritchie is useless.

Yup, Muzzin should have moved over to protect Brodie when he pinched in. For me CAR had there way with the Leafs. That fact that we need to say at least they are trying with this core is hard to accept. Just expect more. They don't look like a Stanley Cup team. I realize it is very early, but I have a hard time seeing what is going to magically change this group.

The chances start going in? I mean we really do out chance other teams badly. When it clicks and the team starts rolling everything will be fine. We had a horrible skid last season and ended up just fine.

I just don’t want a playoff skid.

This is about the least confident I’ve ever seen this core. Marner isn’t making any special plays with his creativity. Tavares offensive play has been well below his standards. Kerfoot is the only forward getting outshot at 5v5 this year. Kase is dead last among FWD’s when he’s on the ice this season with a 45.7% expected goals against through the first seven games. Your two main D stalwarts Brodie/Muzzin look like ****. The PP still sucks. I’m just having a hard time putting my faith in because they are getting a lot of chances this are going to change. I’m with you, they are going to score more than two goals a game, put a win streak together. But this is not a Stanley Cup winning team and I don’t see that changing this year. And that’s what sucks
