They had the worst power play ever last year. I know they are starting this year looking better but having a really really good PP quarterback for their rebuild would be of huge value. Getting a first for a player that is likely walking in FA is a good return.

A 1st+ is the asking price for Manson and Barrie is ass and was carried, he’s literally a worse version of shattenkirk

You’d pass on last year’s leading defenseman point scorer and a first for a pending UFA? Sure, Barrie isn’t the best defensively (it’s a little overblown tbh) but if he’s deployed well he can be a really valuable asset to a team. Honestly, I think you’re getting the better player in this deal, and with a first rounder to top it off it’s a no-brainer in my opinion.

He's terrible defensively, but it wouldn't cost to trade him let's be real. I'm sure many GMs out there would still love to have him on their team.

2022 1st for Manson
2023 2nd for Barries contract based on Gostisbehere to Arizona in the summer

I could understand the Ducks specifically not having interest as they're going to suck terribly for the majority of Barries deal but calling the reigning scoring champion among defensemen at 4.5 mil a cap dump is simply idiotic.

This year so far ducks are 33.3% on the power play which is top 5 in the league and we got our 19 year old running it!

That's just stupid. Barrie isn't a cap dump and Manson isn't worth a 1st.

I really hope he turns it around but Barrie has just had an awful start to the season. Out of the 5 defense that played in all 5 games, Barrie has a 5v5 xGF% of ~40%. The next lowest regular dman is 55%. The stats pass the eye test as well as it seems like he is constantly beat defensively. I take his offensive production as a grain of salt since he gets a good chunk of it in secondary assists. He does walk the line and distribute well but if he's not working it low to McD/Drai/Nuge it doesn't turn into the numbers he put up last year.

I do enjoy reading the Cult of Hockey in the journal and have notice the game grades he's gotten so far this year:
Vegas- 3
Arizona- 5
Anaheim- 3
Calgary- 4
Vancouver- 2

I can't think of another team that would willingly take that Barrie contract on without asking for an asset to go with it. When playoff time comes around, the Oilers would be better off with another RHD that plays both ends rather than a good PP QB that can't defend. In a vacuum I don't think Manson is worth a 1st but RHD always seems to be low supply high demand. I was thinking of the David Savard deadline deal in regards to compensation.

And Manson isn't "good in both ends" - he's decent defensively but a black hole offensively. A 3rd pairing guy in Edmonton probably, as he's 4th most used at 5v5 in Anaheim (5th all situations).
