Description
Honestly, after listening to 32 Thoughts today, I have a better take on this. Mitch Marner should absolutely not be traded. I get it. He's been struggling and it's so frustrating to see, but lets be honest. We are always going to be upset at him because of his ****ty agent and contract.

Let's put that aside. I think Dubas is right to bet on Marner. He will find his game again once he gets out of his own head. What I do think Dubas should 100% do is find a better LW for Matt or Tavares. Bunting is solid but Ritchie is horrible.
A replacement for Holl is also needed. I think Liligren has played just as well as Holl has and has more upside than him. Muzzin hasn't been great but I believe he is playing injured. Need someone to take the load off of him. A Manson or a Lindholm in ANA would be perfect.

Seeing how this could be Dubas' last year, GM's are known to make a very rash and costly "future" trade that deals one of their best prospects for immediate help.

Side Note: what do you think about bringing a guy like Patrick Marleau into the Leafs staff? Like a special advisor type of role? To help get Matthews and Marner back to normal? Or would it end up being a Jumbo Joe type of Situation

Stars get a lot more. Pavelski is still elite. I also think they make the playoffs so i don’t think Pavelski is available.

Unless they continue this terrible play I can’t see it happening in season but absolutely a big contract NEEDS to be traded. Mostly likely Marner (Tavares NMC, Nylander has taken his game to a new level, Matthews no chance he is going unless he walks). The flat cap has changed everything for this team. It’s a freaking crap shoot every year trying to find that million dollar player that can overachieve in this roster. Too many guys have walked or traded because they can’t fit into the cap. It’s a different world now, Dubas and Co need to adapt.
Its still possible to see a Kerfoot or Mikheyev (salary needs to go out if you are bringing in a player) trade this season to try a bolster the lineup. But it’s not happening anytime soon, this current roster and really the STARS of this team need it figure it out fast.

In favour of who? The Ducks trade has 2 blue chips and a 2nd.
The CHI trade is balanced because you get a proven 2nd line centre with more term than Strome. You can argue they don't need him cause they have Johnson now, but its something along those lines
The dallas one is the only iffy one, which is why I said it depends on how Pav season goes. They could probably net a first.

Depending on how his season goes. But yeah, I think they could grind TOR for a first

Honestly, I agree with everything that you're saying, that the stars are going to need to figure it out. However, I still think you have to bet on your stars. They aren't one time wonders, they are elite and can pull themselves out of this

Do you know what else I see lowkey happening? JT in the next couple of seasons going to Robidas island and that's how they get to keep the 3 stars.

It's alot to stomach for the Leafs yeah, but if this is Dubas' last season, why wouldn't he trade futures to help his team now?

Manson value is relatively low. But Rakell’s should be rather high based on his start. I’d have to look at how Amirov is developing but based on reputation yes. Niemela is a solid prospect too who should make the NHL. Ritchie is just a throw in. The ducks would never want him back but the rest is a quality return.

It’d be more than a 1st to get Pavelski. He’s still right in the elite bubble.

1st and a 3rd? Similar to what CBJ got for Foligno?
Kinda tough to identify the market for rentals as Hall was netted for a 2nd lol.

Maybe. He’s just better now than Foligno ever was.

Flat cap hasn't changed anything tbh. It's not the depth, defence or goaltending that is failing this team. It's the top 3 guys and their freaking mentality.
