Seattle wasn't going to be able to draft a top contender.
They should have locked in on a few choice "core" players, then went for assets that could be flipped to add to that core, then surround them with free agency signings.

An expansion franchise is starting with a bare cupboard. Stocking that cupboard should be high priority. At least with extra picks you can bolster your roster if you end up being successful in your first season and want to go for it.

left wing artemi panarin is actually a right shot, but you wouldnt throw him onto the right wing just due to his shot, since his preferred position is on the left. same thing with bailey, he's a left shot but he doesn't play the left wing.
