I just don’t know where Pettersson fits longterm with Sanderson coming in . To have him on the 3rd pair makes no sense

Matheson to Ottawa would be better. Since according to Pens announcers he skates like Coffey and has the hands of Peter Forsberg he's probably worth Stutzle+++

Probably not anymore because he's been playing real well and with injuries and future injuries which are inevitable in Pitt they're gonna keep him.

Henrique has really stepped up as of recently. I think Ducks would want a decent return for him right now for him retained. Isn’t White done for the season?

Easy no for the Pens. He's been their most consistent d-man for a long time now and he's worth way more than some scrub and a late 2nd.

No to Pettersson. Too much term and with Holden, Mete, Branny... AND SANDERSON (and eventually Kleven) ... ZERO reason to take him on.

I don't like the term left on Henrique's deal either but if they'd take White in trade (even without retaining on Henrique) I'd do it.

I'm going to play Devil's advocate on this..

Why does it work?
A) Cap relief
B) Hextall & Burke get their truculent player
C) Pens pick up a 2nd round pick and Hextall values futures right now
D) Pens were shopping Pettersson

Why doesn't it work?
A) Pens may no longer look to be shopping Pettersson if he continues to play like he has. He's always been good, but he looks to have possibly taken another step
B) The TBL pick might as well be a 3rd. If he changes the pick to OTT's 2nd, then maybe it becomes more attractive
C) It makes no sense to bring in another LD when they currently have too many.

Overall, the one thing that needs to change is that 2nd. Not even negotiable. Must be Ottawa's. In general I think the Pens would decline. They don't need another LHD when they already have a surplus.

A) you don't trade a good player on a good contract for cap relief. If you want cap relief, you trade Matheson, who really has no spot on this team with the emergence of Friedman as the 3LD.
B) The Pens haven't needed "truculence" to win, no reason to get a gritty player now just for the sake of it
C) That 2nd round pick does literally nothing for the Pens.
D) He's proven for a very long time that trading him would be a huge mistake.
