Toffoli and Strome both have more value than that. Toffoli gets a 1st + and Strome somewhere around a 2nd

So Habs give away their top scorer from last season for a AHL d man ,…. Makes perfect sense

Strome value is around a 3rd or 4th round pick per the Athletic

I don't know about that value, he has a 50 point season already and while it was 2 or 3 years ago he is still young and capable of doing it again.

He has been healthy scratched 4 of 5 games so far. If he was worth a 2nd at one point he sure as hell isnt now

He was easily worth a 1st after a 57 point season and being 22 years old at the time. Sure his value has gone down, but a full analysis of his past two seasons are as such;

2 seasons ago struggled after being out sick with a very bad flu (perhaps Covid) Hawks coach plays him at wing for 20 games and looked awful
Last season, tried to play through a concussion and looked really bad for 2 weeks, finally told the team and got checked confirming he had a concussion. Additionally suffered an ankle injury
This season, coach doesn't want to play him not because he isn't a top 6 forward on the Hawks, but because the coach is so focused on everyone playing D and Strome is not very good at D. Additionally, widely believed Hawks are protecting him from injury to garner a trade.

All that said, he is definitely worth more then a 3rd or 4th; he's still a .67ppg player since joining the hawks despite what I shared and only 24 years old.

Yeah but I wouldn't pay more than that. I feel like Toffoli is going to decline from now on. Still would be a pretty decent stop gap, 3 years @ 4.25

Montreal is missing like half of their key pieces from their cup run and it's causing them to tank so far.

Toffoli is only declining because his team is dragging him down with them.

Based on a previous trade for Toffoli last year, I'd say Ottawa is getting good value out of 3 more years of Toffoli when we're only giving up Brannstrom.

Yeah I don't think Montreal will be as terrible as they have been the first 5 games, like last night things went well.

I'm not saying Toffoli will decline to the point of being useless like Stepan but I meant that he peaked last season and since he's 29 y/o, it will be downhill from now on but he should still be good enough to be worth his last 3 years at 4.25, which is why he would be a good stop gap for Ottawa. However I don't like his skating, he would look slow compare to the rest of our forwards.

He scored at a 44 goals/69 points pace last season, do you think he will do that again?

That was not a great return for Toffoli... I'd take Brannstrom over that without thinking

It's basically Madden and a 2nd, personally I don't think Madden will be a NHL player so basically a 2nd
