Why? Because It's 12 mil in dead cap for like4 years if I remember correctly. That is the near equivalent of the rest of Connor McDavid's contract. That is money the team will absolutely need if they want to compete. They will have to be extremely good with manipulating the cap in order to go for a deep run with any depth.

We can afford to keep Fiala: just don't sign Carter and pinch a bit of cash away from those Goligoski/Kähkönen deals. We'd be able to give around 6-6,5 million to him this year.

Why not? I get that Turcs is a blue chip but he’s still a prospect. Fiala has scored at a 30 goal pace over the last 2 seasons, and he’s still 24.

From what I can tell this is Fiala's sixth full season. Next year is his seventh. Does LAK give up their #2? prospect and a 2nd for one year of Fiala?? Pay him big $$ to avoid ufa??

Does Montreal give up, right now pick 33 for a big body that doesn't score?? Minnesota can keep him instead of Carter..

does LA really need wingers? they have tons of forwards and forward prospects. they're light on D, plus they're still in the rebuild. i don't know if i see them trading prospects away just yet.

I think that’s the question. The signing of Danault and trade for Arvidsson really indicates a ramp up in expectations, and thats the only reason I think LAK *might* make a decent spot for Fiala. When Byfield comes back, he’s the third C, and that pushes Turcs out. Couple that with the Pacific being in play this year, adding a 30 goal scorer for at least the stretch run this year and next would put them into another tier.

I have no idea what type of player Turcotte is, but if he's more of a passer than maybe they flip him for Fiala without the 2nd. Given where Turcotte was drafted and the cap situation of the Wild, this would probably be a 1 for 1 if Fiala and LA can work out a long-term deal.

I mean they could always shift Turcotte to the wing, but as I mentioned above, if he's more of a passer than swapping him for Fiala might make some sense from LA's perspective. Doubt they include a 2nd given the pick they used to select him with though. The Wild's need to shed cap doesn't exactly give them a ton of leverage either.

I’ve got high expectations for the Kings this year and expect them to be in the playoff hunt. Fiala would be a big boost with more certainty than most of their prospects.

I do agree their biggest need is on defense tho.

Fiala is near as makes no difference a 24 year old 30 goal scorer that drives a top 6 line. Turcs has potential but he’s still a few years away from realizing it fully. I think you need another piece if you’re the Wild IMO.

I mean I'd love to see another piece just like I would have in the Granlund/Fiala trade, but it just seems like one of those "both teams get what they need" trades so why would more need to be added. Again, I don't really know LA or Turcotte so maybe an extended Fiala doesn't check any blocks for them.
