The language the league has used makes it sound like they’re not at all convinced Weber will be LTIR eligible next year.

What language? When did the league release a statement about Weber?

It was about a week ago, and there was some ominous phrasing like, “at this time.” 32 thoughts did a piece about it and I remember the statement definitely making it sound like Weber could be on LTIR this year, but it wasn’t a done deal that he would be eligible in the future.

even if he's not LTIR eligible, he'd be 37yrs old and playing for 3mil and then 1 mil for 3 years. Highly doubt he sees any point to that and my guess is he won't bother putting his body thru the ringer much longer, if at all.

6 Million dollars to a guy that's made 120mil isn't worth it. Not when his body has been thru what it has. Would you risk not being able to walk properly at 40yrs old for only 6mil when you have over 100+mil in career earnings? And even if you would and shea may WANT to, i highly doubt his wife and kids let him.

6 million dollars is still 6 million dollars. I also doubt he wants to absolutely kill Nashville with recapture penalties.

I guess it could be possible that Weber may be medically cleared a year or two down the line, but by all accounts he’s settled down and is moving on to retired life. So if he isn’t able to be placed on LTIR, he’s still likely not playing one way or another.

The recapture is more manageable now with the rule changed to equal the amount over the remaining years. Not ideal, but not killing them.

LTIR isn't a paid holiday. There are still hoops to jump through. Retiring can be a weight off body, mind, and time. That might be preferable to a few million for him, after taxes.

Name a player that had the LTIR option that chose to just outright retire.

I don’t think so. He grew up there. Heh spent 11 years working for that company, and got a lot of opportunity out of it. I doubt he wants them sewered.

Like you said prior, it's about the opportunity that they provided to me, not the dollar amount. If you think the money is a reason for him to be loyal to an ex-employer, then the lack of money in the final 4 years of his deal will indeed prove me right and he would care less about playing for the habs for so little.

Just saying it's a possibility. Can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Retiring on LTIR is pretty standard, but there are often other factors like +35 where it would hurt the team if the player wasn't on LTIR or when it is preferable to have the player on LTIR for cap gymnastics.

If his LTIR status causes difficulty for Montreal, I wouldn't be surprised to see a golden parachute and have him take a role with the organization.

Ya, i suppose if they give him $6M to “scout,” that would be an option.

Being thankful and grateful for someone giving you $78M and also wanting another $6M that is rightfully owed to you are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Biggest issue with his LTIR is off-season cap space. If anything creates that scenario, I'd imagine that to be it.

In the off season you can exceed the cap by i think 10%. Shouldn’t be an issue.

His cap is pretty close to 10%. We were tight this off-season already.

Again, and i'll repeat - 6mil in the grand scheme of things considering he's alrdy made $125M+, to potentially ruin his quality of life after hockey is not worth it In my opinion. But if you think otherwise, agree to disagree. You seem like one greedy son of a gun!
