That is one gross underpayment for Byram. Looking at Montreal's roster, they just don't have the assets to trade for him. Probably get ripped apart by Habs fans for suggesting Caufield and a 1st is probably where the conversation starts but Colorado probably still sticks with Byram.

Byram could easily be a top pairing quality dman on an ELC for the next 2 years. Those type of D come along less often than forwards. Colorado is likely to ride him for 2 more years and if they can't afford him out of his ELC he will get a kings ransom. A lot more than depth pieces and a 2nd. If Colorado made Byram available, there would be an all out bidding war and his price would surely be higher than Toffoli-Chiarot-2nd. The phone doesn't even get picked up without Caufield's name.
