Maybe not at first? Winnipeg is no prize either.

Jets are going to be cap-strapped for a couple more years, so not sure that this works in terms of the mid term: Does upgrading centre translate to an overall worse team?

For Buffalo: I dunno if PLD will stay. Not because of Buffalo the city or anything, you just wonder if he wants to go through what should be a fairly lengthy rebuild. One of the rumoured reasons he wanted out of Columbus was the worry that a long-term commitment from him would lead to being the only one left. Buffalo should aim for a younger piece than him, unless they want to them flip for more futures

Yeah I feel this is how Buffalo would ultimately get the most out of an Eichel trade, getting a player management doesn't necessarily want to keep and instead flip the player for futures.

It's probably not what Sabres fans want to hear but this is a good way to get value for Eichel.

Definite no from Winnipeg. The Jets aren't giving up a very good 1B center and two firsts for an injured player that won't play this year. There's just not enough upside for Winnipeg to pay a ridiculous asking to Buffalo for a player they don't really need.

Might be a fair trade, but geez how to this fit into Jet's cap? Also Jets are in win mode....trading Dubois for a Eichel who on LTIR till when????, doesn't seem good for the Jets this season.

My guess is Dubois would get a contract in the neighborhood of close to what Eichel is already making, not $10 million but maybe $7 million for five years. Depending on where the Sabres finished this season and when the trade is done, it might not be the worst thing for both teams. I would guess a trade like this would have to happen at the draft or just before, so Eichel’s no trade clause doesn’t kick in yet.

For the Sabres I would fully expect Owen Power to be signed for next season, and whoever they get to draft in the first round could also end up in the lineup pretty quickly. The youth in Buffalo could be competitive faster than people think, if the young goaltenders develop well, especially if they spend their money wisely in the next year or so.
