Oilers don't need centres and especially aren't trading Holloway for it.

Toews as 3rd line center makes a deep team or gives the option for Mcdavid and drai together more often

I get what your saying but Holloway and second is a lot to give up for a 3rd line centre

I do agree as an oilers fan that holloway is a centreman for the future
But I think we are in win now mode before Mcdavids contract runs out
I dont know but I think Oilers next two years are going to be a blast too watch

This is Jonathan Toews not Chris Tierney lmao this package wouldn't come close to being fair if there was no retention and no cap dump included. Calling Toews a 3C is worse than calling prime Malkin a 2C despite him being arguably the 3rd best player in the league at the time. Toews is a bona fide Cup-winning 1C that would run the Oilers 2nd line in this hypothetical, allowing for Drasisaitl to play wing on a stacked 1st line or the league's best 2nd line. Not that the Hawks are trading Toews, or retaining on him, especially for such a pathetic offer. The fact that you don't take this and run is absurd.

on the Oilers he is a 3rd or 2nd line centre depending if Drai is on McDavids wing, if it's a bad idea for the Oilers to trade C.Jones and a 3rd for a guy who was good in the 2010's doesn't seem like a good idea to trade Holloway and 2nd for another one

Cool, but Toews hasn't regressed yet. He's a Selke-calibre, near-PPG 1C with championship pedigree. That doesn't come cheap. Especially at 5mil retained for 2 years.

Did you just decide to ignore my point completely? It doesn't matter if he's 2nd or 3rd line centre on the Oilers (although playing him at 3C would be foolish), the fact remains he is a 1st line quality player and will cost that much in a trade. If I told you I'd play McDavid on my 4th line would you trade him to me for a 7th? I didn't think so. Give your head a shake, your "point" makes no logical sense. And Keith has been actively regressing for 5 years. Toews was injured all of last season, but has yet to show any signs of regressing and is 5 years younger. Players can be good in more than one decade you know, especially high end players like Toews. He's more than worth 5.5mil right now.

weather he's still good or not if the Oilers are trade those assets they should trade a D-man cuz the forward group is pretty set right now

He's coming off of missing a full season with long Covid and is 0 Points and -4 through 3 games. If I'm the Hawks I'm not panicking but if I'm another team I'm not rushing to acquire Toews with that level of risk.

That being said, the Oilers just don't make sense for this type of move. They have their money invested in centres with McDavid on the first line and Nuge/Drai on the second line. Even with 50% retained, after you've invested salary on those guys you just can't afford $5.5mil for another centre. If you clear up cap space and give up your top forward prospect, you need to at least be addressing the defence.

I agree that the Oilers D sucks and needs a complete revamp, but to pass on this trade is poor asset management. It's literally better to accept this trade, and then try to trade Nuge for a defenseman, because Toews is better than Nuge, and you can probably bring in a guy like H. Lindholm with the equivalent assets and cap space you'd get for dealing Nuge, ultimately leaving you with an improvement at 2C and an actual good top 4 D for the cost of less than Holloway's value (considering Kassian would cost more than a 2nd to dump, part of Holloway's value goes to helping with that, leaving less than Holloway's full value as the equivalence for Toews retained, which is bonkers).

Gross. Way under valuing every hawks player. Hagel for a 6th? Hawks wouldn't give him up for anything less than a first.

This is predicated on flipping guys with full NMC. NMCs typically limit return because players completely call the shots (see Hall at the trade deadline going for a 2nd when if no trade restrictions would have likely gone for a 1st and possibly more). RNH just signed an 8 year deal with full NMC... he definitely wanted control to not be flipped to a rebuild, he's done enough of that in Edmonton. While Edmonton wouldn't be the worst destination for Toews, he seems like someone who unless there are unknown personal reasons is likely to stick out his career in Chicago and retire a career Blackhawk. Even if you convinced him to come to Edmonton, I can guarantee you he isn't waiving that NMC to be flipped to a rebuild.

If the Oilers want a Lindholm, may as well just deal with Anaheim directly.

Undervaluing Hawks players and Kane says no to Boston; maybe Toews says yes MAYBE. Kane would definitely get more back at half retained and hagel for a 6th is laughable. Hawks also aren't moving Toews half retained for Holloway and a 2nd and I like Holloway.
