Cool. He’s overpaid though. I don’t think you know who the Vancouver players are then.

Did it occur to you you that this might be off when literally everyone, including a guy who’s username is mitchmarner, thought this was brutal for the Canucks?

again, no they don't. They don't have the depth on D right now to replace Cole and they don't have the cap to retain and take on Kampf.

1. From this trade, 1.65 million of Ian Cole's cap hit goes out the door while Carolina takes on the 1.5 million cap hit from David Kampf.

If anything, Carolina is gaining cap space.

2. Ian Cole is a pending UFA while David Kampf is not.

3. Ian Cole is a 6th/7th defenceman that is expendable.

With Skjei and Slavin on the left side, Carolina is fine.

4. Carolina is getting both Kampf and a 2nd round pick for Ian Cole.

When was the last time Ian Cole was ever worth a second?

5. I hear Rod the Bod is going to make TDA a 1st pairing defenceman any day now sarcasm

They specifically went out and signed Cole to stabilize their 3rd pair, something that was an issue all season and playoffs last year. They also made it a point to address their depth at D in the off-season so they are not again forced to play Max LaJoie in a playoff series.

They’re not trading him for a forward they don’t need and a pick, they also don’t need, when they’re looking to contend.

2. If the Canes want a LD like Ian Cole for the 3rd pairing, all it costs is a 4th or 5th round pick at the deadline.

They're a dime a dozen.

I just recognize value when I see it.

Okay, you really don't understand this do you. They have less than 100k with Kampf, fine. But they still have to replace Cole (A top 6 D man capable of playing top 4 minutes and pk time) with no money! This has nothing to do with Skjei, Slavin or TDA! All of which are currently top 4 D men on the Canes. This also has nothing to do with their contract status. This makes Carolina a weaker team NOW, when they're competing for the cup. It's also more money freed up to re-sign Trocheck, Bear, DeAngelo and Niederreiter. This is an easy no.

But no, you know better than someone who's watch the Carolina Hurricanes for 24 years sarcasm

1. No, you really don't understand.

After getting wrecked for making TDA a 1st pairing defenceman, you're now mad and wanting to lash out at the guy that wrecked you.

2. Send any forward of your choosing to the AHL to make room for Kampf.

Spend a 4th or 5th round pick on a Top 6 D man capable of playing top 4 minutes and PK time and that is making less than 2 million because they are a dime a dozen.

Recognize that Gardiner is out for the season on LTIR, giving the Canes 1.7 million in cap relief.

You're welcome.

3. So, we've gone from TDA being a top pairing D-man to now being a Top 4 D-man??

Your hedging is pathetic.

4. At least one of the four players you listed will be leaving in the off-season and Kampf's cap hit is only 1.5 million.

Circle of life.

5. So, you've watched the Canes since the late '90s.

As if what happened with the Canes back then is somehow relevant in the year 2021.

If you watched them for another 24 years, you might get up to speed.

But even then ...

1) TDA IS FIRST PAIRING, he's played 92.5% of his ES minutes with Slavin!

2) There's no extra forwards on the roster that have a buriable cap hit. Lorentz is the only one and he's go too much upside to send down. Jarvis would have to go to the WHL and couldn't be recalled.

3) HE'S TOP PAIRING, Pesce is always the 2RD, because they always split him and Slavo up!

4) Two are RFA's and 2 are top-six forwards. They'll attempt to bring them all back, even if Nino goes, you still have to pay Kotkaniemi.

5) I've watched them my entire life and you're acting like you know the organization you've only started watching this season forever. Like you own them, it's funny. Maybe just leave it to people that watch EVERY single Canes game.

1. That 10 minutes of EV TOI did wonders for TDA in the second game against Nashville.

Yeah, that's first pairing material alright.

2. Lorentz having too much upside to send down when he was dead last in ice time against Nashviile.

We're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here LOL.

3. Pesce always the 2RD after being 1st in EV TOI among RDs?

Looks like someone needs to spend another 24 years watching the Canes lmao.

1) Game was very stop start, with a lot of defensive zone starts, not gonna use TDA there. It's why Cole and Bear got so much ice time awesome face

2) Lorentz also doesn't kill penalties or play on the powerplay. He makes far better plays than the other member of his line, they just play PK tears of joy

3) Pesce and Skjei's pairing played the most! Yes! Because TDA's not trusted to play defensive zone minutes! So they start the 2nd pairing! Easy to follow if you watch Hockey!

1. A game that was very stop start.

Much like TDA's potential as a 1st pairing defence-man, right?

2. Kampf kills penalties and wins face-offs on a regular basis.

With him on the team, all is well in the Carolinas.

3. So, the defence pairing that plays the most is not the first pairing?

And TDA can't cope in the D zone, but is a first pairing defenseman regardless?

Gotcha.

No.

They had to resort to playing LaJoie against Nashville when Slavin was out last playoffs because they had no depth. They signed Cole AND Smith to mitigate that this season.

Where would Kampf play in CAR’s forward group? Why do they want to add a bottom 6 player who’s on the hook fo another $1.5M a season next year when they have Drury or Rees who can fill a spot next year for half that?

Cole fits. This trade does nothing for CAR. They open a hole on their 3rd pair, and end up with a forward with term that they have zero need of, all for just a 2nd? No thanks.

1. You still have Smith and you can get another defenceman just like Ian Cole for a 4th or 5th round pick.

They're a dime a dozen.

2. Because he's not a pending UFA like Ian Cole and it's possible Drury and Rees might not be NHL-ready in 12 months??

Kampf is a guaranteed NHL player who kills penalties and wins face-offs on a regular basis.

With a guy like him on the team next year, all is well.

You're welcome.

3. For this season, send any forward of your choosing to the AHL to make room for Kampf.

4. Cole might fit but he scrapes the bottom of the barrel.

This trade does the things I've mentioned throughout this entire thread and you're wilfully ignoring them.

The hole on the third pair can be filled by Smith or any defence-man on another team for a 4th/5th round pick, because they are a dime a dozen.

The Canes are also getting a forward that any team would want and get an extra 2nd.

You're welcome.

Drury would have very likely made the NHL roster were it not for their NHL depth. The Canes have zero need for another bottom 6 forward with Noesen, Leivo, CJ Makth in the minors, on top of Rees and Drury.

You’re suggesting they go through cap gymnastics for a player that don’t need and for a pick they don’t need as well by giving up a player that they’ll end up having to replace anyway.

Guys like Kampf are a dime a dozen. The Canes have one of the deepest prospect pools in the league.

It’s OK to be wrong.
