If I was GM

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
These moves begin at the 2019-2020 trade deadline, when habs were sitting 8th last in the NHL, before meraculously making the playoffs.

Toffoli - never signed
Hoffman - never signed
paquette - never signed
Brooks - not picked up
Edmunson - never signed
Savard - never signed
Perrault - never signed

Wallstedt takes over for Price in 3 years.

Habs blue line is young and their is healthy competition for roster spots (I put everyone who will be competeting in the next 2 years for spots.)

Jarvis and Ylonen up and down between AHL in 2020-2021. depending on injuries.

Disclaimer: MY VERSION BELOW is a rebuilding habs team, if I was GM the rebuild would've started before the bubble, and the main priority was the D core. This Habs team would likely be picking top 10 in this years draft (just like the actual habs roster), and will draft a winger.

Détails additionnels:
This would've been a deadline deal at the 2019-2020 deadline. EDM was looking to add forward depth and needed help on defense for a cup run. At the time, puljujarvi had very little trade value, he was in findland and sucked. This was fair value at the time and could've been tweaked to be cap compliant.

Even at 50% retained, Edmonton wouldn’t have had the cap space to make such a silly deal

Please do not put Bean on the PK. Canes would take the 2nd and the 3rd for Bean, but if you really want him, play him in offensive situations only. That way he might be good. I like Bean, but he is not as good as he was hyped to be. Lackluster at best defensively, and not that good offensively.

EDM would give players back. Also Petry hadn't signed that extension yet. At the time, I think EDM would've actually went for something like this. Mcdavid might've been closer to a cup.

Haven't really watch much of him. I just think habs should acquired him if the price was only a 2nd round pick.

You dont make any sense. Cap doesn't work. Unidentified players not included. Edmonton wouldn't traded 2 young players for an UFA Petry. This is bad all around.

It’s true Edmonton may have been inclined to do this, but at the time, Edmonton was right up against the cap. You’re talking about $10.8M worth of players, so even if you retain half ($5.4m), you also have to take on $5.4m in players. Are you willing to take James Neal? Kris Russell and another $1.5m player? Kassian had just been signed to an extension and Koskinen was running a .917 sv% so neither of them are options.

How much would it cost for you to take these players? And would Edmonton pay that? The trade is already costing 2 first round picks for players with only 1 year of additional term.

Sorry for going into depth, but the site is called CAPfriendly. Besides, how realistic of a fake GM do you want to be.

Keep in mind Petry didn't exactly leave here on good terms. The whole reason he left Edmonton was the organization was a tire fire and the fans completely turned on him and ran him out of town. While the org has gotten better I would think Edmonton would still be the last place Petry would want to go.

In my original comment I called the trade silly, and this is 1/2 the reason why. The other 1/2 is because I don’t think Holland would give up 2 first round picks for veterans with little term. He very clearly understands the value of top prospects and 1st round picks.
