EICHEL 4-WAY BLOCKBUSTER

Créé par: Richard88
Équipe: 2021-22 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 17 oct. 2021
Publié: 17 oct. 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Transactions
1.
COL
  1. Caufield, Cole
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (MTL)
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
Not sure what Caufield's trade value is, but basically Buffalo pick some futures/assets from Montreal to the equivalent value of Girard.

Buffalo already have Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, and Johnson at LHD so a selection of futures from Montreal might be more appealing than Girard.
MTL
  1. Girard, Samuel
Détails additionnels:
Montreal get a young top-pairing LHD on an awesome contract to partner Petry and QB their PP.

Girard goes to Montreal which is a much better destination for him than Buffalo, thereby making it less awkward to trade him just 1 year into his 7 year team-friendly contract.
2.
COL
  1. Eichel, Jack (1 200 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Eichel traded via Arizona who retain $1.2m x 5 ($6m) in exchange for a 1st and B prospect from Colorado.
BUF
  1. Caufield, Cole
  2. Compher, J.T.
  3. Newhook, Alex
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (MTL)
  5. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
+ Plus whatever other prospects/picks are necessary from Colorado/Montreal.

There would likely also be some conditions on the picks dependent on Eichel's health.
3.
COL
ARI
  1. Beaucage, Alex
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
1st + B prospect for $1.2m x 5 ($6m) retention on Eichel.

Arizona likely won't be up against the cap ceiling until after Eichel's contract expires in 2026, so they'd effectively simply be buying a high pick and prospect for cash here, which is something their owners have been willing to do this previous offseason.

First of all, that’s a trade with Montreal then a 3-way, not a 4 way trade, 2nd of all, Caufield had more value than Girard, no idea why we’re adding 2nd’s there

Montreal shouldn't trade Caufield, but how in the world does he have more value than Girard, at the current day Girard is the better NHL player hands down. Caufield could be, he has the potential to be, but at the moment he isnt

Girard is a nice complimentary guy nut Caufield's potential makes him worth more. Habs arent the team adding here.

Would you trade Byram and 2 2nds for Girard?

I should slightly reformulate that, Caufield has more value to us than Girard and i feel like Caufield has the higher upside

there isnt a vast difference of 2 2nds attached in value, that is just some fantasy land valuing of girard, but I do think girard holds as much if not slightly more value today

and yes I agree value to the team in Caufield to montreal highly outweighs market trade price.
There is that unknown potential in his goal scoring ability that makes the idea of trading him unpalatable bc of the what if. but the opposite is true, what if he doesnt max out and hes just a decent scorer etc. Teams like trading for the known quality and right now Girard is a pretty known value, you know his floor at the NHL and its pretty damn good already

its a trade neither team makes and Richard is obsessed with these Eichel trades, taking a Friedman believe of Sakic doing his job and all NHL GMs jobs, call on a player who is available on a trade.

Thanks for your replies.

As mentioned in the description of the trade: "Not sure what Caufield's trade value is, but basically Buffalo pick some futures/assets from Montreal to the equivalent value of Girard.".

Maybe it's not Caufield + 2nd + 2nd, but something else. Caufield has only played 13 NHL games with 4 goals, and whilst his potential is sky high I don't think his value is higher than Girard who is more proven.

Whatever the case that Caufield package was just an example, feel free to envisage the same trade but with other pieces going to Buffalo that match Girard's value.

We can all debate till the cows come home, no team with a player like Caulfield is trading him for a player like Girard. Let alone adding two 2nd round picks.

No, it's not a trade with Montreal first, and then a 3-way. It's a 4-way trade because Montreal are an integral part of the entire trade, seeing as Buffalo would be the ones choosing the futures from Montreal rather than Colorado. The assets from Montreal could go straight to Buffalo instead of via Colorado like the way I wrote them above.

I'm not obsessed with Eichel trades, I'm just curious what a deal could look like given that Friedman specifically mentioned Colorado. You're welcome to not comment if my 'obsessions' are too much for you to handle (though i do appreciate your insights) smile

Picks could be included with conditions to hedge potential vs current value. However, Montreal should not trade Caufield, and certainly not for a LHD.
A RHD that should develop into a top pairing guy is worth considering, as we have nobody lined up to replace Petry/Savard, but that should be achievable through other means. Moving another winger for a prospect with potential makes more sense. (Toffoli for a package, for example, similar to the Pacioretty trade and hope to get "lucky" again.)

when is the breaking point in Montreal, 0-5 start and they move a winger? right now it looks like such a log jam

I was under the impression that Montreal's biggest need was a top-pairing LHD, considering all the Girard-to-Montreal trade proposals on here and the fact that Chiarot is your current 1LHD.

We're not going to make any panic moves before getting Hoffman and Edmundson back at least. Three games isn't cause for concern. Everyone's offense hits a bad patch now and then, could just be getting one out of the way early.

Allen has been solid. Drouin (and his line) have been performing well. Two of the losses have been close despite only scoring once/game. There are positives in play. We just need to work on the negatives, injuries, other lines finding the back of the net, and Montembault having better games.
If things don't change as those issues are addressed, it might mean making a move, but doing something now would be premature.

isnt there a numbers game issue once they get healthy, Hoffman and Byron is going to force them to make a move bc of the cap shouldn't it?

For now i agree with you. caufield has less value than girard. but it doesn’t make any sense for the canadiens to trade
for him considering we have romanov, guhle, norlinder, harris, struble all coming up. i wouldn’t mind doing something like harris and/or struble + 2 2nds for girard but i have a good feeling that isn’t gonna be enough

That's a temporary issue. We have a LHD pipeline.
Edmundson is our defacto 1LD but he's injured. He is an effective partner for Petry. Romanov is questionable, but needs opportunity in the top 4 to develop. Chiarot would make a steady partner for another RHD if we acquired one.
It would be nice to have a Girard NOW, but it stunts Romanov and closes the path to Guhle and Norlinder for the near future.
A Goligoski would be better advised as a temporary solution.

girard isnt for sale as well. but the only way it makes any sense its for an equalivent level player similar age and cap hit, if they wanted a winger that fits that criteria maybe one day they can look at that especially if Byram just blows him away on the depth chart after this season.

Girard for futures and prospects doesnt make sense for the Avs, just as Caufield for a LHD doesnt make sense either for Montreal

Not acquiring Girard simply because you have some LHD prospects - who may or may not pan out, is a risky business. There's a reason why GM's pay up for proven players, because far from all prospects pan out.

I would assume thats Lehky, too many fwds were just added either via traded or signed as Free Agents, dont think they move any guy they just signed/extended etc. I dont think they move Drouin bc that would probably be a bad look after everything he went through, hes back playing hockey and happy so let him be

Yeah the only way Girard would be available for futures would be in a scenario where Buffalo preferred a package of futures over him. Avs have no need for futures in exchange for Girard.
