The Sens are still off from competing, and giving up a 1st that is almost certainly top 10 if not top 5 is always a hard sell. Also I think the organization itself is a bit more bullish on Norris and Pinto as a 1-2 than the outside consensus might be. I think they like the pieces they have, and I'm not sure they'd be willing to move the assets necessary to get him. There's also the whole aversion to signing bonuses, though I doubt that would actuallybe a sticking point if they were seriously interested in acquiring Jack Eichel, which I doubt they are.

They can not tank for always. They already got 100 good prospects and last year they selected 10#, they need to try and complement the young and promising core they have. I don’t think they will be selecting 1-5 no matter what this year. What’s the point in hording 10-15 prospects year after year and get nowhere? Jack Eichel is almost an generational talent, how often does that come around?

That's debatable, this class is very good and Eichel isn't considered an elite level player until he's back from injury imo

I don’t think the pick will be that good. I think they finish 5th in the division

What does it matter? He will get healthy eventually and make you one massive step closer to be competitive in the near future.

Eichel was undeniably a top 5 NHL pivot before the injury, but what he will be after his surgery is anyones guess.
There's no chance any team gives you this kind of return until Eichel proves he's still the same player.

By the time he gets healthy, his NMC will have kicked in and we would have gone a whole season without Pinto.

Also, Eichel has been with the Buffalo Sabres for 6 years and they've never made the playoffs, so there's that.

No... Just no... Eichel doesn't look like a proper fit in my opinion for the team, yes he's a good hockey player, but not the right hockey player for the team

Okay why? - and he’s not just a ”good” hockey player, but one of the best in the world.

2022 1st round pick (OTT)

There's no Eichel trade without White, because they like White, but, I expect White gets bought out this summer and becomes a UFA. The injury keeps him from proving his worth, and this is the last summer to buy him out at 1/3 cost. There's no upside to keeping him, which is too bad because I like Colin White, and still think he can be a 2C. So if one of his supporters thinks he's getting bought out, it's on the table for Dorion.

Secondly, Ottawa wouldn't give 3 centres for Eichel. White can play RW and Greig can play LW, but they can play centre if there's a need, so Ottawa isn't trading 3 centre options.

Lastly, and I'm a minority on this opinion, but there's no Eichel trade without Gustavsson being included. Buffalo needs a goaltender. All they have are old guys on expiring contracts, and prospects too far from being ready. Gustavsson fills a need there.

I here you. You got some valid points, but don’t agree with Gustavsson and their goalie situation. They have Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Erik Portillo, not a famous name but one of the best goalie prospects in the world. Then they got Devon Levi from the Reinhart trade. So I don’t think they feel the need from another goalie prospect.

That's my point, none of those guys are even close to playing an NHL game, let alone be a starter, whereas Gustavsson is there. In 3-5 years when these guys are ready, then they can push Gustavsson for the job.

I don't think Gustavsson would be of much value to Buffalo, they chose to roll with Anderson, Tokarski, and Dell because they wanted to be bad...

Not sure where this narrative that the Sens goaltending sucks comes from

Is it because of their putrid numbers from the start of last season? First, Marcus Hogberg and Joey Daccord are both gone. Second, it's simply because the defense to start the year was NOT NHL LEVEL

Management and coaching made several mistakes (and later DJ even admitted it). For example, it took game #10 before inserting Artem Zub who was easily the Sens 2nd best D-man last season.

There's also these 3 facts :

- Sens weren't among the 24 "playoffs teams in 2020" so they didn't play for 10+ months (covid)
- Since they are rebuilding, they had a 50% roster turnover, once again
- No preseason, couldn't test any system against real NHL competition

So based on these factors and personnel mistakes made, it took a while to implement a proper system with competent NHL players. Here's the goalies SV% since March 15th :

Matt Murray (5 GP) : 3-1-0, .954 SV%
Filip Gustavsson (10 GP) : 6-1-2, .934 SV%
Anton Forsberg (10 GP) : 4-5-1, .915 SV%

If anything, Sens goaltending has been elite in the last 25 games of these remaining 3 goalies, and the defense is still far from ideal. Jake Sanderson will make an impact right away but there's also Bernard-Docker and Kleven who also will in a not too distant future

Agreed that the defense sucks until then though because there's currently no #2 and #4 IMO (Chabot is a #1, Zub is a #3 again IMO)

Nikita Zaitsev is ideally a #5
Nick Holden, Victor Mete, Michael Del Zotto are #6
Josh Brown is a #7-8 at best

Erik Brannstrom is still young and developing but IMO will get eventually traded as he doesn't fit the team and LD is stacked (Chabot, Sanderson, Kleven)
