Habs have a surplus at RW

Créé par: MisstheWhalers

Explications
Jets get a true RW to slot next to Lowry and another right handed shot in the lineup, Habs get another center option and if their season doesn't go well they can sell Copp at the TDL, it also frees up cap space for them next season if they don't re-sign Copp.

This is how I'd make the lines with the consideration that Wheeler isn't leaving the top six and Lowry isn't being moved from the 3C spot as long as Maurice is the coach.

Sent Perfetti to the Moose cause I think that's what they'll do eventually anyway.

Think that'd be a way better 3rd line than Copp/Lowry/whoever could ever be.

Anyway please shred me in the comments below, keep them constructive though please and thanks.

Makes senses to me it’s fair
Tho Ducharme is in love with Armia so hard to see him getting trade
But perfect trade IMO

I actually like it. Think Jets should add a 3rd or something since Armia has more term

I'd gladly take it. I've never been a big Armia fan and I didn't think he would be re-signed. Copp would be a perfect 3C.

Do you really want an overpaid 3rd/4th line winger that much? Armia is good but he's certainly overpaid

I would say overtermed, or invent the word if it's not a word. His cap hit shouldn't be a problem for what he brings.

Yeah I'm a big Armia fan, I think his contract is fine, he's better then Lowry and Copp imo and they make roughly what he makes.

That’s a good deal for both side, we get a versatile player, but he only has 1 year and we might let him go, while Winnipeg gets a decent 3rd liner with term

Probably good for both teams, so the trade itself is fine.
The problem here is Armia having term and Winnipeg needing cap space next year. Otherwise, I'd say do it.

Copp is vastly superior to Armia, but I guess the intent is that Armia has term. I think MTL should be adding here.

I dont know what resign status is like on Copp, but I can't see him surpassing 4m, so even if he gets a 4x4, I'd rather that than Armia on his current value.

Every team has one of these players (someone most fans of other teams think are vastly overpaid for the value they bring, but is coveted by the current team). I.e. Kerfoot.

Copp is vastly overrated by analytics, been watching him for years, he's a glorified 4th liner with stonehands, Armia is a far better player then Copp is.

I think this is just one fan's opinions, perhaps someone who just dislikes the player in general. Vancouver fans do this a lot to certain players, so I know well the emotion. I have yet to hear of a Jets fan who doesn't like what Copp brings, I didn't think anyone disliked his game.

Im not opposed to something like this but from what I've seen, Copp isn't a dedicated center and that's what the Habs need. If Copp is just gonna be a winger for the Habs than I'd rather keep Armia.

While Copp for Armia might be a fair deal meeting both teams needs for this season. I don't know if Armia is good value for three additional years at 3.4m

Losing Appleton is a bigger hole for the Jets than people think. Coop is solid 3rd line LW with Lowry. They will re-sign Copp to a 3/4 yr term deal close to $4mil. Its over paid but thats the going rate for 3rd liners nowadays. I'd actually trade Stastny for Armia. Habs need Centre depth as they have a plethora at wingers this season. And we need a right handed guy on the wing. Armia fit perfectly back into that 3rd line spot he played so well for the Jets with Lowry.

Is that all you want for Copp? I bet the Avs would do Compher+ for him

Armia and Compher are in pretty similar situations. Both are around 0.5P/GP forwards at their peak but had down years in 20-21. Compher is a bit younger and is more defensively focused while Armia is 2 years older and is more offensively focused. Similar cap hits but Armia has 4 years left while Compher has 2

Montréal isn’t trading Armia for a 36 year old rental.

I watched them both for years, Armia was clearly the better player.

And so the Jets fans who are big Copp fans don't have their emotions playing into their fandom for him?
It goes both ways, I don't mind Copp but Armia is a much better player imo.

Armia is great defensively and Lowry's best years were with Armia propping him up, I'm not sure Compher could get anything out of/with Lowry production wise so I'd be wary of that.

Its not a problem because your cap isn't that tight. He's a borderline 3rd liner if not 4th liner. I like his intangibles but he shouldn't be making over 2.5 or so

I feel like people think Armia has scored more than he has.

He isn't "around 0.5 P/GP"

He's had a single year at 0.5 or higher (0.52 in 2019/2020) other wise his career high is 0.4 and his career is 0.37.

I don't think the leafs covet kerfoot per se. I just think he takes unreasonable hate. He isn't a great player, but he is a useful one. Most importantly for the leafs he provides us C insurance as they're needing and using right now, as they decided to get a pure defensive c to be there 3c (Kampf). So if Tavares or Matthews is down he is the other top 6 c.

I'd be quite happy to upgrade on him, but the upgrade (or another trade) would have to also be able to play that top 6 c role. Otherwise we are just screwed if Tavares or Matthews goes down.
