What would you give the Flyers if Claude Giroux wanted a trade to Ottawa

Description
If Giroux wants a trade to Ottawa and only Ottawa, I wonder if Pierre Dorion could pull off a trade like the one Boston did for Taylor Hall.

Given that Giroux has a NMC and Hall used his NMC to allow only a trade to Boston.

Depends where Ottawa is in the standings. But if he gets traded to a contender, he probably signs with ottawa in the summer

This is a hypothetical.

Also, Ottawa might become a contender, so you never know.

It's a pretty specific hypothetical. Where the Flyers are clearly out of the playoffs, Giroux tells management he wants to be traded/has no interest in re-signing and will only waive for Ottawa.

At that point, any offer that isn't insulting to the Flyers would get him.

it depends on if the Flyers are in the playoff hunt or not....if the are, they are doing a hockey trade to contend while probably trying to get someone with more term/control. Maybe some futures with a guy like Connor Brown or Colin White in there

If they are out, they are probably going pure futures and its draft picks and a good prospect plus a young player

From the perspective any team not in the Big 4 for the Atlantic, I think this route makes the utmost sense for the Senators. Assuming Philly is among Columbus as the pond scum of the Metropolitan, at best the Senators are vying for the second wildcard berth against two of the Capitals, Devils, and Rangers, plus whatever the Habs are able to muster. When healthy I think the Senators have the top-end talend and forward group to do it, but the goaltending and blueline probably have them on the outside looking in.

I'd personal use any assets hypothetically used to acquire Giroux in this case to add elsewhere on the roster. Some form of substantial add at RD could be had given how tight teams tend to wind up against the cap these days.

No, the Flyers would probably take the 2nd. They wouldn't be happy about it, but it's better than losing him for nothing.

This is just so backwards and wrong lmao. The dude is the longest tenured Captain in Philadelphia sports, 2nd all time on the Flyers scoring charts, longest Captain in Flyers history, face of the franchise, etc. Not to mention he is a better player than Taylor Hall and even if he did want to sign in Ottawa eventually, his only interest if he hypothetically wanted a trade would be to play for a top contender at the deadline.

It is this simple: Claude Giroux is not going to be traded in a similar fashion that Taylor Hall was, period

Giroux in the summer would be like Dallas adding Pavelski 2 years ago. You also have Sanderson and Gustavsson joining the team next year

I like the Pavelski comparison.

The question marks the Sens would be contending with at that point are Murray, Zaitsev, and Zub. Replacing Holden with Sanderson and Forsberg with Gus full-time is a step in the right direction. I like Zub as a top-four guy, Zaitsev still remains a negative asset, and I'm willing to give Murray another season-ish to try and figure things out before wholly writing him off.

I'm not expecting any of Brannstrom, JBD, or Thompson to become top-pairing right-side defenders overnight (nor do I expect it of any of them tbh). I think that's where the big add would need to be. Replacing Josh Brown with a graduating prospect is going to be a marginal improvement at best and probably keeps the Senators in contention for the W2 spot. A premium add, whomever it may be, could result in the Sens pole-vaulting over Boston and a genuine 'contender' for the top wildcard spot. Usurping the likes of Tampa probably takes another year or two after that.

I don’t think that is applicable in this case, giroux is getting to the end of his career, 34, as a ufa this summer, and he wants to chase a cup if he sees a chance, hall wanted to go to a place where he wanted to sign with in the first place and he’s entering in his late prime years

This isn't going to be a homecoming trade nor signing. Giroux isn't from Ottawa. He's from the bushes and stick of Hearst which is a little far away from Ottawa. And wherever Giroux sign next year, at this point in late in his career, it is going to be with a contender. Ottawa is going to be built to compete and contend over a long period of time (like we were in the late 90's thorugh the early 2000's) but its not now and not on Giroux's timeline. However, if he wants to sign. I'd take him!

A simple internet search does wonders for fact-checking.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Giroux

1. Moved to Orleans when he was 14 and went to Beatrice-Desloges High School.

2. Played minor hockey for the Cumberland Barons and the Cumberland Grads

3. Played for the Gatineau Olympiques for 3 years before his career with the Flyers.

4. Was arrested by police at a nightclub in the Byward Market one time during a Canada Day celebration there.

5. Made a 20K donation to a local charity afterwards.

Does that sound like someone who is not from Ottawa to you?

Make sure to read the last part of this article.

https://ottawasun.com/2014/07/02/philadelphia-flyers-star-claude-giroux-arrested-in-ottawa

"Spotted across the street from Elgin St Headquarters."

No chance the Sens give up Connor Brown to get Giroux.

Connor Brown and Colin White don't have similar value at all, even if you retain 50% on White's AAV

Time to copy/paste my Connor Brown FACTS!

- Among Brown's 19:17 TOI/GP in Ottawa, 2:45 were on the PK and only 1:32 on the PP. His overall dZS% has been 62.6% which is extremely high. Simply put, he is mostly used as a shutdown forward or on a matchup line.

- Despite this defensive usage, he has been 61st for Even Strenght Points among NHL players since 2019-20 (not including 2021-22 yet). Look at the names around him on that list, they aren't all as good overall :

http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20202021&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=evPoints&page=1&pageSize=50

Facts summary :

- He has scored at a 24 goals/50 pts pace in Ottawa (127 GP)
- He was 2nd in takeaways last season (behind Mark Stone of course)
- He received Selke votes (17th)
- Total beast on the PK : routinely gets more scoring chances than the opposition
- used heavily in a defensive deployment (34.0 oZS% vs 66.0 dZS%) but still provides good offense

His speed, non-stop motor and flawless work ethic is a beautiful thing to watch. With only a 3.6 AAV for 2 more seasons... way too valuable for Ottawa and they love him a lot. Any team who has Brown should use him in a similar way that Ottawa has been

Ok but why do you think there's suddenly all that talk around Claude Giroux to Ottawa?

https://twitter.com/PaulGb_/status/1449082161815031808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1449088093840158721%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es3_&ref_url=

Maybe rumor wasn't the right word, more like speculation from that Philly reporter. The rumor would be this one :

Paul Gb @PaulGb_
From a source: Giroux really wants to play in Ottawa at some point in his career. Whether that’s this year (via trade) or in the summer as a UFA, would depend on where OTT are in the standings around the deadline, obviously.

So Al Morganti is a radio personality with no inside connection to the front office giving his opinion, and I'd bet any large sum of money that @PaulGb_'s (who I don't think is an insider in the first place) source is Al Morganti lmao.

There is talk of Claude Giroux to Ottawa because the Internet likes to run rampant with literally anything they read anywhere online. Flyers fans did that with Gaudreau, Toronto fans did it with every other player ever, etc. There's literally 0 weight to Giroux to Ottawa

I personally don't care much about rumors but it gives people something to talk. I haven't created any thread but I'm participating in the discussion. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with that "lmao"... I mean this whole armchair GM section is mostly just hypothetical already... No need to get up in arms about this "lmao"

I mean, some people seriously need to give their head a shake... "lmao"
