Is this a reasonable Eichel price

Description
This is what I’d be okay with giving up if I were Bob Murray. Since the ducks are a rebuilding team they may flip him to a contender for more assets in the future.

I think it is too low price (I am not Sabers or Ducks fan).

I don’t expect the Sabres to get everything they’re asking for him at this point. And I don’t think the Ducks would want to give up Zegras or Drysdale.

Sure, that's why I cannot even imagine possible Eichel trade during this season.

I would agree they should wait until at least the offseason. But it does seem like they’re trying to trade him ASAP

IMHO a fair deal has be that Buffalo/other team hedge their bets.

The conditions of this trade need to be that if Eichel comes back to full 100% and is a dominant player again, Buffalo gets the haul they deserve. If he doesn't, then the return is reduced.

The real "meat" of the trade is going to be in the conditional picks. Not so much the players or prospects.

Their will probably be players going back for most teams, just based on cap reasons, because I don't see BUF retaining on Jack for 5 years. Too much salt in the wound.

They have to make a trade this season, and probably as fast as possible. I can't imagine Eichel is sitting there waiting on having surgery forever. Especially if he wants to go to the Olympics, if he still can.

Oh of course. I meant the player pieces coming back with cap won't be the "meat" of the trade. They'll get one decent prospect, one big cap dump/player with higher cap but the biggest part will be the picks.

Even as an avowed and vocal anti-Eichel-trader, I think that this is an inadequate return. To summarize what @F50marco and @littlejerryseinfeld have said or implied previously, I think that there have to be conditional 2023 and 2024 firsts involved, depending upon the number of games (and/or number of points) Eichel gets in those seasons. I don't think that having this season factor into any conditions is realistic.

I wouldn't be so overly confident of that, as the teams most likely to go for him are probably going to be teams in the hunt.
I can't see teams who are rebuilding going after him. Why would they trade out high round picks for damaged goods that are a gamble, even if he does come back and play.
He could come back and have 1 good year, and bam, 1 hit that artificial disk and he's done. No one knows.

I honestly think he ends up in BOS. I know that sounds odd to some people, but they need a real center. With one, their picks probably aren't all that high and frankly they don't have a great prospect pool.
So movement of a guy like Carlo and DeBrusk, etc to not only make the cap work but the trade work makes sense. BUF gets fairly young players, roughly the same age as jack, who are good, and then maybe some conditional picks but the picks will be later round.

I think it's hard to justify this as a rebuilding team. Jacks gonna be 25, teams who are in rebuild are looking at that and saying, the age might be a problem with what their window will actually be. By the time their prospects get their he'll be 28 years old. By the time they develop enough to really compete Jack is pushing 30. The only team with younger prospects who look like they would compete is OTT. But it makes no sense for them. They are better off with their young talent.

Two prospects and two picks. One of which is conditional and only transfers if/when Eichel reaches 80% of games played in a single season (or similar).
Buffalo insures one of the prospects with a conditional first a couple years removed.

So if Eichel returns to (healthy) full form, Buffalo gets two picks and 2 prospects.
If he doesn't, Buffalo gets 2 prospects plus a pick and returns a 1st for them.

Still a significant risk for the acquiring team, but they only lose 2 pieces instead of 4 if things go sideways.

For sure a cap dump will need to be included. Very few teams have the cap space and even if they do, they'll use this to dump a salary they don't want any more. The quality of prospects will determine the quality of picks and conditions and vice versa so speculating will be really hard without a starting point.

Its all but guaranteed at this point that the prospect(s) they'll get will not be elite. No Zegras. No Byfield. No Lafreniere, etc etc. so their best bet to ensure they get the best deal possible IF Eichel returns to full form is through multiple conditional picks. Not just one. That's why I think the "meat" of the trade has to be picks given.

Buffalo has to formulate the conditions of the deal as such that if Eichel comes back to the superstar he was, that they get the return they would have got prior to his injury had they traded him (Or at least something they would have been comfortable with). The same goes for the team acquiring him. If they get crappy Eichel that doesn't play the same and is often injured, they pay a bare minimum price which Buffalo sees a win regardless considering they were trading Eichel at his lowest possible value.

Im fairly certain the deal will be as follows:

-Cap dump who can still play. Not a complete waste of time player but somebody to replace Eichel on the roster and offset salary. (Henrique)
-Former 1st round prospect whose NHL ready. No stud but decent prospect. (Steel)
-Secondary prospect whose less known and basically a project. (Mahura)
-Conditional 1st 2023 (Games played, points scoring, etc - If not does not meet criteria, pick can be lessened, voided, swapped, etc)
-Conditional 1st 2024 (Games played, points scoring, etc - If not does not meet criteria, pick can be lessened, voided, swapped, etc)
-Conditional 2nd 2023 (Games played, points scoring, etc - If not does not meet criteria, pick can be lessened, voided, swapped, etc)
-Conditional 2nd 2024 (Games played, points scoring, etc - If not does not meet criteria, pick can be lessened, voided, swapped, etc)
-3rd round pick 2022

This way:
Best case - if Eichel comes back to 100%, Buffalo gets Henrique, Steel, Mahura, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd.
Worst case - If Eichel is a shadow of his former self and hardly ever effective anymore buffalo gets Henrique, Steel, Mahura, 3rd at best.

And everything in between will depend on conditional picks.

problem with your deal here is that I'm pretty sure there can only be one conditional pick in a trade. That said, the only untouchables in my eyes are this years first and Z for the Ducks. I wouldnt be surprised a trade happened after the regular season where either the ducks didn't have a selection they wanted and or a prospect like McTavish or Drysdale didn't live up to expectations. Regardless all im saying is there is no reason that Ducks acquire Eichel during this season where it requires giving up a top 3 prospect and or a top 5 pick. Eichel better get use to the press box.

Is this a new rule change? The Taylor Hall trade from NJ had a two conditional picks.
