Pettersson I feel will have a bounce back year and perform at a good rate. Unfortunately his contract would be more movable.

I think its completely dependent on this years showing....

You have alot of signings/re-sigjnings on TEAM friendly monies, but with an aging team and declining results, I doubt those players come back for discounted salaries for declining results. In other words if they struggle this year (entirely possible), why would they come back?

(Maybe Malkin does come back for 7.5mi, but why would ZAR come back at 60% of his salary? Why does Kapanen who was on a cheap bridge deal only get 4.25 if he has another yr like last year? Why re-sign Friedman? Why would seattle want zucker, when they didn;t want him for free (expansion) before? Lafferty/Ruhwedel/etc... are AHL/NHL borderline now, why bring them back?)

And in almost every way, you have assembled the same team, so I have to believe you think 21-22 has been a great year, but if it was a successful year, the same logic as above applies: why do these guys sign so cheaply when they can get far more on the market?

I mean Don't know anything about pettersson , but Minnesota doesn't have any room for d because Calen A will be 6th d next year with Dimitry . Also cap doesn't work . So Minnesota will keep their 2nd round pick in 2022

It’s really hard to say about some contracts. But signing players that I did here are to fill roster spots and a lot of them are still young and can still crack the roster. I doubt Geno has any interest in leaving the Penguins and would absolutely take a discount. Letang’s contract is a deal I can see actually happening. Besides we’ve seen a lot of surprised happen with contracts. And you can’t look at Zucker as a guy who “means nothing” to a team. I’ve seen him play a lot over this year to know that he’s still a top 6 forward. He plays hard night in and night out and plays quite the 2 way game. That’s what’s ignored about his game because everyone focuses on the offence production. Beside Seattle gets a 2nd round pick as well. As for the cheap contracts you say. It’s almost as you make it sound like these guys will get paid double or something. Also look at Guentzel’s contract. He was a top 6 forward at the time of his deal and he signed a team friendly contract. You don’t know what these players are thinking. And as of the “aging core”. I wasn’t aware a group of players in their mid-late 20s is a bad thing. The only really older players are Sid, Geno, Letang, and Flower in this roster.

The Wild will need another defencemen and Pettersson’s defensive abilities I believe will make him a perfect fit in Minnesota. I’m sure they can make it work.

You do realize that calen and Dmitry are wild 3rd pair right? Wild can't afford to spend money on 3rd pair d which is why Ian Cole was let go especially with Minnesota needing to spend money on C

Cole didn't want to come back, he wasn't let go. He took a 1 year deal for $650k more than they gave Kulikov (2 year deal). Cole is chasing more Cups as a 3rd pair d-man, not rotting away on the 3rd pair of a fringe Playoff team. If he wanted to be in MN he'd be there GMBG wanted him back, and that is a contract he's sign without hesitation.

Pettersson's contract is too much cap and term for MN to take; that's the reason they would say no.

and who’s going to be playing the top 4? That’s why I said Minnesota needs another defencemen. Use your head a little more.

I’m not calling you stupid. Don’t be so dramatic. I just said use you’re head a little more. Goligoski is in the twilight of his career and could possibly retire as he’s on a one year deal. That’s why I said. Minnesota will need another defencemen. I’m absolutely fine with Addison and Kulikov as the the top 6 pairing. It’s just the top 4 pairing that needs to have a reliable replacement. Pettersson is also still on the younger side as well. And if you ask me. I’m 100% picking Pettersson over Goligoski.

There is supposedly a handshake deal for Goligoski to re-sign in MN on a much cheaper 1 or 2 year deal next year. The high pay this year was to offset that lower pay when the buyout cap hits really start hurting. So instead of a $3m x 3 deal it ends up as something like a $5m x 1 and a $2m x 2 deal, it ends up as the same amount of money, just a lower AAV legal cap circumvention tactic.

I do agree that Goligoski is in the twilight of his career, maybe he has a couple of years left in him and maybe he doesn't. It's a gamble MN almost has to make with the $14m in dead cap and another $28m tied up in 4 players long term. Pettersson simply has too high of an AAV and has too much term to work for MN.

I’m sure Minnesota will have to make some trades as well anyways because Matthew Boldy I feel is NHL ready.
