Yeah after what happened this summer, teams will stay quiet in the offer sheet front for a while
Let's try to remember that the last successful OS before KK was Dustin Penner in 2007, 14 years ago...
And before the Montreal OS to Aho, the last one that was signed by the player was Ryan O'Reilly in 2013 (matched by the Avs)
It barely ever happens, when it happens the player doesn't sign or when he does, his team matches most of the time. Players will use it to get a favorable contract from their teams
Pettersson, Hughes and Tkachuk were RFAs all summer (BT still is) and yet, they didn't sign any OS
All it does is it creates bad grief and you don't want to create ennemies among your peers
I wish people could move on from this. Useless to even talk about it
To take the other side, you can make the case that both offer sheets worked out well for Montreal.
We turned the Kotkaniemi compensation into Dvorak, who I’d argue is the better player in addition to being on the better contract.
And we screwed over the cap situation of a rival team who’s competing for one of the 8 playoff spots in the east, just like we are.
The irony being that both were also self inflicted wounds by Dundon, the first one by playing hardball with Aho after stiffing AAF workers on their salaries. And the second one overpaying an inferior player assuming we’d match.
Oops.
Also, for the record, Bergevin has more friends in the GM community than Dundon does.
