Carolina likely matches that pretty easy but it would piss Dundon off because signing bonuses and making him over pay Necas on top of Kotkaniemi

1) Carolina match instantly
2) Necas isn't a C, he's a right winger
3) This opens up Montreal to a Caufield offersheet

will give you the first too. But only opens Caufield to an offer sheet if the habs let it get that far. Really dont see that happening regardless of whether this offer sheet is done or not but that being said i highly doubt the habs go down this road again.

I think the whole offer sheet war is over, especially considering that MB is likely not coming back next year.

Cap issues say otherwise.

Caufield will be a 10.2(c) player at the conclusion of his ELC. Ineligible for an offer sheet. smile

except cap issues can be addressed, everyone keeps acting like its impossible to create capspace, Caufield wont be signing a 10 mil a year contract. KK's offersheet worked because the team was at the point where they could see a future without him and were fine with it. That wont be the case with Caufield they will gladly move draft capital and or prospect to create the space they'd need for him. that being said Price probably not on LTIR so there would be a need to probably move out the 6 mil or so needed.
Dont resign Chiarot (really hoping they move on from him to open up space for Ghule,) and let Leckonen walk thats 6 mil. I think Romanov going to cost a bit more so could also trade or at the very worst buy out Drouin for additional capspace but i have a feeling his play this year should make him a valuable trade piece on the final year of his deal.

Smart money is on Caufield not signing a 1 year deal out of entry level.

Yeah after what happened this summer, teams will stay quiet in the offer sheet front for a while

Let's try to remember that the last successful OS before KK was Dustin Penner in 2007, 14 years ago...

And before the Montreal OS to Aho, the last one that was signed by the player was Ryan O'Reilly in 2013 (matched by the Avs)

It barely ever happens, when it happens the player doesn't sign or when he does, his team matches most of the time. Players will use it to get a favorable contract from their teams

Pettersson, Hughes and Tkachuk were RFAs all summer (BT still is) and yet, they didn't sign any OS

All it does is it creates bad grief and you don't want to create ennemies among your peers

I wish people could move on from this. Useless to even talk about it

To take the other side, you can make the case that both offer sheets worked out well for Montreal.
We turned the Kotkaniemi compensation into Dvorak, who I’d argue is the better player in addition to being on the better contract.
And we screwed over the cap situation of a rival team who’s competing for one of the 8 playoff spots in the east, just like we are.
The irony being that both were also self inflicted wounds by Dundon, the first one by playing hardball with Aho after stiffing AAF workers on their salaries. And the second one overpaying an inferior player assuming we’d match.

Oops.

Also, for the record, Bergevin has more friends in the GM community than Dundon does.

No one is forcing you to comment. You are entitled to make whatever choice you desire in that regard.

lol not really sure what to tell you and why you are even quoting me to tell me this stuff. I wasn't even talking about the habs in particular. I mean, not everything is always about ourselves (in this case the Habs)

I have specifically quoted @Campabee to talk about what HE said (I could have cut the comment on MB as I never talked about it)

Anyway, not interested to further talk about the Habs, Kotkaniemi, Dvorak or MB in particular...
