Although you never want to see a player go down... especially in pre season there is a silver lining in the injury that buys the management team more time before having to decide who they want to expose to waivers. This is all assuming Mikheyev is projected to be out long enough to use LTIR (Keefe said there will be more updates by Monday).

My guess is Bunting will slot in on that LW role with JT and Willy but it can also be Kerfoot because of how well they played together in last years playoffs. Also Engvall will get the game against Montreal over Brooks, but expect Brooks to draw in for Spezza or Simmonds on the second half of the back-to-back against Ottawa Thursday.

Moving Mikheyev to the LTIR now allows the Leafs to carry two extra skaters (1 D and 1 Fwd) which I guess is making the most of this situation.
With all that being said... I am hoping for a speedy recovery from soup. Very unfortunate situation.
