Wayne Simmonds has not been able to contribute at the NHL level since he left Philly. Wagner right now is better than him by every available metric. If simmonds didnt have the hometown card to play he would not be on the team right now.

yeah, that's no ttrue at all. Not only did Simmonds score as many goals last year as Wagner had points despite breaking his hand and playing less games, he's had significantly better possession metrics, both raw and relative for years. The only thing Wagner is better at is getting Dzone starts, where he gets absolutely caved in

Why? People hate Ritchie for some weird reason. His analytics are solid for a 3rd liner and he’ll bring the grit some times over stepping the line but won’t back away from anyone.

Ritchie is exactly what this teams need, not less of, and someone who isn't afraid to drop the gloves. You want to know a team that wouldn't stand up for one another? Watch the Leafs back in 2019-2020 season when players would take big hits on the Leafs stars knowing that there won't be any retaliation. Where was the team when Tom Wilson laid a big hit on Tyson Barrie and almost injuring him? Where was the team when Justin Abdelkader laid a big hit on Rasmus Sandin?

Hes better than Simmonds and provides a similar role. His production stats may not be there but his CF% is usually on the plus side. It’s the poor penalties he takes that you’ll get mad at but TOR is good enough to overcome those and his grit will be a plus. He’s mean on the ice.
