leafs would need a top prospect and a 1st rounder as well from the bluejackets. Marner and Laine aren't even close to a even trade talent wise.

You're looking at least 8 x $8,000,000 for both Patrik Laine and Morgan Rielly.

I think Rielly takes a discount to stay in Toronto. idk if 6.2 is gonna be what he gets but we'll see how he does this year. he definitely gets 8 on the open market tho

Sure Marner is better but Laine has that interesting unclaimed talent and can become a legit 50+ goal scorer. Him and Matthews on their separate lines would surely be something. Laine will be a few millions cheaper then Marner and will have more term. I don't think he would sign this deal tho proposed here. I think a 5 year 7m deal makes sense for both sides. Toronto gets a guy that is over 4.5m cheaper and for 5 years and Laine gets himself alot of million on his bank account and will be 28 when the contract runs out so he can cash out in FA if he so wishes and sign a 7 year 10m deal if he produces well here. I think Toronto should honestly do it as Marner has problems showing up in the playoffs and they know they can make it there with or without Marner but once there a big finn like Laine with his size would be great. Othwerwise the Rakell contract needs more term at least 4-5 years but probably 6 and 1-2m more in money.

Those deals are light on the Toronto side except for the Marner one. And those re-signings/signings are very light.

(And the defense is worse)

Sabres wouldn't move Jokiharju for Robertson at this point. If Robertson scores 20 goals this year and drives play on his own then maybe there could be a conversation but for now Jokiharju is their top pairing RHD. So trading him for a "middle-6 upside offensive winger" doesn't make sense. I think Robertson is more of a 2nd line ceiling than 2nd line floor prospect, but that's just my opinion and you're welcome to disagree.

So the leafs are giving up their best playmaker, 4th in league scoring, 6th in takeaways and if he played the last game of the season he would have lead the league in ice time 2 years in a row for forwards. Last 19 playoff games including the bubble Matthews and Marner 17 points each, Hyman had 5 points. Marner had 1 less point then Matthews against the habs, so where is all the talk about Matthews under performing. Marner is the only leaf that's on the #1 unit in every situation, not Matthews Tavares, Nylander or Rielly

Marner straight up for Laine is a joke. Marner 355 games - 358 points plus 48 playoffs 32 games 25 points minus 1. Laine 351 games - 271 points minus 29 playoffs 24 games - 16 points - plus 3. Will see with Ritchie protecting Marner and Matthews this year in the playoffs how much both of their production will go up. Finally they will have someone protecting them.

Matthews has problems aswell of course. But trading him just wouldn't happen. And his contract is better if you ask me. Marner needs to drive his own line puttin up 35+ goals and being a 100-110 point player to truly prove he is worth his contract while producing and being ppg or good defensively in the playoffs

Marner has made every center he's played with have a career year in goals so he drives every line he's played for. He was 4th in league scoring last year so l think his scoring in the regular season is not a issue. Now 4 assists against the habs was definitely not up to his standards. No where did l mention to trade Matthews but unless things change Nylander will be the odd man out because teams can't afford to give up the assets or afford the contract that Marner has. To get Marner you would have to give up your 2 best players a top prospect and a 1st round draft pick, not to many teams are willing to do that for 1 player

Marner would not cost that much with his contract in mind. That is the problem. A teams second best player, 1st pick and A- prospect might be the most any team would pay for him. Also Nylander is on a great deal aswell so if Toronto trades him they are just digging themselves an early grave and Matthews will leave for Arizona. Yes I understand Nylander will be the one getting shipped but if im Dubas I do everything I can to keep him and do something else
