Description

Must maximize Boychuk LTIR.

Parise and Chara signed last minute to get as much money out of LTIR designation as possible and limit bonus money they need to defer to next year.

Hickey + Leo go down after this move for Gustafson signing which includes bonuses (executed after initial roster) and Wahlstrom… this leaves them with ~1.3m in cap space with some assumptions on contracts.

Maximizing LTIR requires Wahlstrom to be on the roster

They will want Wahlstrom on their NHL to maximize LTIR space. Wahlstrom has a huge performance bonuses. If he starts in the AHL, his cap hit will become 1.4M when he will be recalled. Same thing for Dobson. You can expect them to be on the opening season roster

I could be mistaken but I don’t think Gustafsson is eligible for performance bonuses, as he isn’t 35+ and wasn’t injured a significant amount last season.

Parise and Chara, certainly are though and I imagine their contracts will be loaded with bonuses, so your point kinda still stands
