Hyman is a perfect comp. Same age, very similar styles, and Rust has even outperformed Hyman the last 2 seasons.

I can tell u this; No player that’s been a PPG player or close to a PPG player the last two seasons is signing a 3.5M deal. Especially a gritty winger like Rust, that literally every team is claimering for.

I think Leafs made a mistake letting Hyman go. But 5.5M per on a long term deal is a bit much. And it would be hard for the Leafs to match that too.

But I think Rust will take a bit of a hometown discount if he stays with the Pens. He’s not signing another 3.5 per deal that’s for sure. I think if he resigns in Pgh it will be around 4.25M-5M per. Probably closer to 5M.
