Description

Some predictions:

Sillinger and Chinakhov make the opening night roster. Domi returns sooner than expected, and CBJ sends both of the youngsters down to Cleveland so they can get 18+ minutes per night. Cleveland's top line of Foudy - Sillinger - Chinakhov dominates.

Texier settles in between Laine and Voracek, but the top three lines all get fairly equal ice time.

Domi has a resurgent year with Gus Nyquist on his wing. We weren't able to see that combination last year as Nyquist was out. The biggest beneficiary ends up being Emil Bemstrom, who looks like a long-term top six scoring winger.

Werenski and Boqvist get broken up after a few games. Jake Bean takes Boqvist's spot and runs with it. The power play sputters until Larsen swaps Werenski and Boqvist, having a righty feeding Laine on PP1.

The Jackets start off fairly strong, and remain within a few points of a playoff spot as the deadline nears. Jarmo uses the opportunity to move Nyquist (with retention) + Domi + Korpisalo + Hofmann as rentals to gather more picks, leaving these as their lines down the stretch:

Chinakhov - Texier - Bjorkstrand
Foudy - Roslovic - Bemstrom
Jenner - Kuraly - Robinson

I don’t hate your assessment at all. I ageee with a lot of it. However. I think foudy makes the opening night roster. He’s looked very good this preseason and has a lot more offense than he showed us last year.

He’s been noticeable for sure, but IMO he’s always been that way. He’s fast and competes hard, but I still see poor hands and vision when I watch him. I think he could make the team, play 4th line minutes (11-12min/g) and develop from there, but he would also do well to get some more time in Cleveland this year. I think he’ll be sent up and down a lot.

I also liked the idea of Boqvist on PP1 to feed Laine. Z on PP2 to feed China.

It seems to me like everyone is underestimating and under-appreciating Nyquist. This team doesn’t have a surplus of veteran leadership and I think it makes more sense to hang on to him. It’s also easy to forget his on-ice impact since he missed last year, but he is a high IQ player with serious hands. He’s not worth moving this year. Maybe at the draft next summer if the kids really show out this season.

Definitely agree that people are underestimating his impact. Had he been healthy, I think Domi would have had a lot more success. They're a really good fit together on paper.

I do think that they end up trading away some of the veterans as the young guys push for real NHL playing time. It's going to be really hard to keep Chinakhov off of the ice, same with Foudy and Bemmer. Best case scenario imo is that Nyquist helps rebuild Domi's value before the deadline, but I do think that even after that, the Jackets trade one of Nyquist/Voracek with retention for a nice haul of picks, whether that's in February or June.

His offensive game really clicked once they sent him down to the AHL and got him consistent top six minutes. I think that's probably the best thing for his growth, since the skating is already above average in the NHL. His floor is pretty much set as a bottom six energy guy, so imo it makes more sense to use that as a fallback than to cast him as that on a rebuilding team right now.

I doubt his hands catch up to his feet, but if his brain does, he'll be a good top six left wing. Would love to see what happens if they develop him at center in Cleveland. Could be a really fun, high-end shutdown #3 center type.

I agree with you that he’s fast. However he’s also playing stronger (offensively) than some of our other guys. He and bemstrom really took steps in their offensive creativity. His hands still suck but he’s driving the net and making plays. Which is what you want out of a bottom 6 guy.
