I don't think having 3 picks with conditions on all of them to where they could become 1sts makes a lot of sense for any team trading for Eichel. The 3rd one just seems like overkill. But at the same time, if I'm BUF, I'm not loving this return.

this is very intriguing... they dump a bad player making a lot of money and add a great player that immediately helps them. they already have an amazing goalie. idk but good work

There is no way that a goalie is the main piece coming back. I dont honestly know what it would take for adams to be fired, all i can say is this trade, if he agreed to it, SHOULD get him fired.

Very interesting trade imo. Taking on Johanson should be an automatic 1st imo. Askarov, Tomasino, and a guaranteed 1st isn't the worst return I've seen for Eichel. What I like most about it is that BUF is still clearly tanking next year no matter what. So guys like Wright/Bedard are still very much in play to replace Eichel.

why? Tomasino is excellent. He was over a ppg player in the AHL last year. Askarov could easily become the next Vasilevskiy... tbh i would rather get the prospects then the picks bc both these guys are really solid... and Buffalo is 50/50 at drafting talent. i would rather go with a semi sure thing at this point.

Tomasino, Askarov, a pair of 2nds, and a 3rd? That's a decent offer for an injured Jack Eichel, or it's a decent offer to dump a healthy Ryan Johansen. Not both.

Johansen was on pace for 36 points last year. That's a hypothetical 36 points if he played 82 games. Mittelstadt was on pace for 44. Okposo, 30. Eichel, 70.

Johansen's cost per hypothetical point in an 82 game season is the same as Okposo's. So a fair deal might be Johansen, Tomasino, Askarov, and a pair of 2nds for Okposo and Olofsson.

Of course, Skinner was on pace for just 22 points last year, with more term and cap hit than Johansen, so Buffalo is going through some time with some dead cap, regardless. They might as well add a couple of top prospects. and some decent picks. But that's a separate issue from getting Eichel healthy and getting a fair return for him, when he can play.

2022 2nd - Nashville isn't making the conference finals. We aren't an Eichel away from being a cup contender.
2023 2nd - maybe a first assuming Eichel actually stays healthy
2024 3rd - once again Nashville isn't that close to winning the cup. Especially if we're trading 2 of our current best prospects.

So basically it boils down to:
Tomasino - High end prospect
Askarov - Blue chip prospect
Johansen - a serviceable top 6 C on an overly expensive contract
2022 2nd
2023 1st
2024 3rd

If we were closer to being a cup team, it'd be a no brainer for me. I just don't think Eichel is a good fit for Nashville.

So if Johansen = Okposo, you're saying Olofsson is worth Tomasino, Askarov, and two 2nds? I don't see a guy with a career high of 42 points fetching a team's top forward prospect or the NHL's top goalie prospect, definitely not both and picks on top. If I'm Buffalo, I don't accept the original offer, but if I'm Nashville, I also don't. Johansen is still a fine player, he's just overpaid. NSH doesn't need to dump his contract right now though.

Yeah. They should see if he bounces back. Just like Buffalo should see if Eichel gets healthy. That's why there might be a fit between trading the two. But I think this Buffalo fan is offering a steep discount.

I think only about half of the money given to Okposo or Johansen is wasted, based on last year's output. But that's still, like $6M for Okposo. Olofsson might be worth taking on 6M total of dead cap, over two years? I don't know. But I figure he's a decent goal scorer, trending up, who would fit better on a team trying to make the playoffs than one dedicated to rebuilding. There's a bit more waste than that with Johansen, so more prospects and picks should accompany him, in my opinion.

Other fans or experts might rank guys on other factors, like age, size, playing style, personal best season totals, puck possession stats, or what have you. I picked some numbers and tried to follow some logic with them. Sorry if it's way off. I'm interested to hear how you'd assess these guys. I think Eichel, with his flashes of brilliance between long rests on the sidelines, is incredibly tough to figure out. Even more so when he's hurt.

I agree that the offer isn’t enough for Eichel, and I don’t think NSH should trade for him unless there is a steep discount. Obviously teams haven’t offered Buffalo enough or he’d have been moved by now. At the same time, I don’t think that any team is going to give them full value. Like you said, the injury is a huge question. I don’t know that NSH would have any interest in Olofsson right now, but they wouldn’t give up a top prospect for him. Maybe another team would, but I would say Tomasino is basically untouchable with Nashville’s position right now. I don’t think Nashville is ready to commit to a full rebuild, but they also aren’t close to contending. I think they see how the season starts and go from there. If they’re at the bottom at the TDL, I would guess Forsberg and Ekholm get moved. If they’re in playoff contention, I think they might try to re-sign them. They can’t let either one walk for nothing. Long story short, I think it’s a waiting game right now.
